PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 528

Sorry to ask yet another question when the dust hasn't settled on my first, but here goes. It's a given that getting the PERC 5/i to work with Intel chipsets requires blacking out pins (e.g. abit IP35-Pro). Would a PERC 5/i with blacked-out pins transfer okay to a non-Intel system?

Purpose: Build the array in my desktop system (blank), put stuff on it then transfer to the media server once said server is built. Desktop has an abit IP35-Pro inside.

Yeah, blacking out the pins has no detrimental effect on a system where it is not required to operate properly. You should be fine in doing so.

Yep It doesn't need pin mod

And 2nd question - can I install 512MB stick from PERC 5/i ? I know - no battery backup - but will it work ?
Bad news - it won't work with 512MB stick from PERC 5/i:
http://www.overclock.net/raid-contro...ml#post6198614

Worse news - it won't work with "original" 256MB stick from PERC 5/i either Both PERC 5/e and PERC 5/i sticks are from the same manufacturer - NETLIST But they are not listed on their web site
So, it looks like it will work ONLY with special memory stick

Anybody knows DELL part number of the 512MB stick for PERC 5/e or even better - original manufacturer model number ?

I currently have a USC-51 Dell card, It's connected to my PCI-E 16x slot, And is using a Fujitsu MAX 3073RC 15,000 RPM 78gb drive...

I don't seem to be getting the performance I should... I have 4gb ram, 2.80gHz dual core AMD athlon (Well, Specs are below)

I've already modded the headsink and added a small fan... I'm trying to figure out why I'm not seeing any difference between it and my 500gb Western digital Green SATA drive.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Are there drivers I'm missing? Firmware needs to be updated?

It's UCS-51 - not USC-51 And it's only SAS card - not PERC.

Here is link to results for MAX3073RC:

What is the model number of your WD green drive ?

Does anyone know where i can find SFF-8484 to 4xSata cables with the part of the 8484 connector angled or low profile ?

Connector Ends like the examples below :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SFF_8484_angled.jpg

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/23...i_SAS_SFF.html

http://lunashops.com/images/upload/I...ta-cable-3.jpg

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/27...to_4SATA_.html

I thought so

I just checked my cables and I found correct model number - DELL NP390:
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/prod...=pub&sku=np390

You will need to buy MOLEX splitter:

and dismantle it a little bit Or you can cut and solder wires - but I prefer not so drastic solutions

On eBay you will find four items - one in the UK #330488950268 (shipping only to Europe) and three in the USA #220776615961 (Worldwide), #380263734145 (USA), #220790005269 (USA).
