If the data is that important to you then you'll need to back it up somewhere.

I just got a PERC 5/i yesterday and was going to flash the firmware, but I'm a bit confused.

Should I use Dell or LSI's? Also, could I get a link to the correct firmware and storage manager please?

@NewAtOCing
There have been report of corruption with arrays over 4 or 5TB when using the LSI firmware. If the data is critical, stick with the latest Dell firmware.

Not sure if that would work, i have not tried it. In all honesty if you don't want to lose your data, go out and buy 4 external 2TB drives and backup. If you lose 2 or more disks in quick succession, bye bye data.

you can use a proggy like Fbackup to keep your data synced with your multiple externals.

Checked on PERC 5/i, PERC 5/e, PERC 6/i, PERC 6/e, SAS 5/e No problems

Anybody familiar with "HP 490375-001" ?

I think it's SFF-8087 / MINI SAS, right ?

So this cable MINI SAS 36P target TO SAS 32P Host,support 10gbps band should be perfect for connecting this backplane to PERC, right ?

@Robinet,

That´s a nice backplane you´ve got there for 3.5" drives.
The connector is the one you show, and the cable should also work fine. (It was hard to notice but the SFF-8087 Connector is on the left of the HP logo).
Do you have the pinout for the power connectors ?
In new servers/controllers nobody uses SFF-8484 anymore, its all SFF-8087 its easier to place onboard and on controllers, and as it looks like that backplane is from a G6 from HP, recent hardware then, you also have the drive cage or its gonna be "home made" ?

Maybe because the photo isn't too big
I've bigger photo so it wasn't hard to find I won it on eBay yesterday so I have only photos right now
There are also two "regular" SATA ports beneath SFF-8087.

I have a video - from HP site - where both plugs are visible and wires are color coded So should be no problem

Yes - it's from DL180 G6. I don't have anything else so the "cage" will be home made
I bought it because there is SAS Expander

There is another backplane - HP 378101-B21 - complete with cage and trays - but it's for ~£100 ... and I can't find pinout for power connector
But if I sell few ST9300605SS (I can offer good price if anybody is interested ) maybe I'll buy it
