Is there anybody from Manchester, UK, with HP DL180 G6 to help me upload firmware? Or is there any way to do this from non-HP machine ?

Here is link to step-by-step procedure:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01828882

And here is link to HP USB Key Utility for Windows:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3884339&prodNameId=3884340&swEnvOID=4024&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-eee9b3632ced47478f9ef85d43

but I don't have required extra software:
The HP USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the following CD contents to a USB memory key: HP SmartStart CD, HP Firmware Maintenance CD, HP Smart Update Firmware DVD, HP Easy Set-up CD. Users may then run the CD applications from a USB key instead of from the CD.

And, of course, I don't have HP SAS controller wink.gif Only few DELL PERC and SAS controllers.

I think you need a P410 or newer to update the HP Expanders - and nothing else will do it (at least that's the case with their standalone expander).

Do you have another card to try with it? Like an SC40Ge or something?

Or P212:
Code:
Step 3: Choose Additional Factory Integratable Options [I](only one from each list unless otherwise noted)[/I]

HP Smart Array P410/ZM 2-ports Int PCIe x8 FIO SAS Controller 462860-B21

No frown.gif

Will P410/P411/P212 work in non-HP machine ? Or do I really need full HP server ?

IIRC the 212 is newer than the 410 tongue.gif

The cards should work pretty much in any board - same as the PERCs...

But what with the extra software ? All those CDs/DVDs "HP SmartStart CD, HP Firmware Maintenance CD, HP Smart Update Firmware DVD, HP Easy Set-up CD".

I'll finally setup my Perc6i.

I searched for the 2TB or 3TB HDD recommendations but couldn't find any definitive answer.

My array will be used for media server and also record my CCTV cameras images. I'll probably use a RAID6 with 8 disks.

Any HDD recommendation list or models that I should avoid?

I ended buying the Samsung F4 2TB after reading at Hardforums about it beeing able to setup TLER using smartmontool.

I have those same Samsungs and no problems so far.
Regarding the 4k format depends on the OS, for 2008 and Win7 its default, on others there´s a format tool.

Hello.

I have two questions regarding a SAS 5/i card.

Does someone know if it works in an MSI FUZZY (Intel mobile GM965 chipset) board and can it spin down disks when ideling (OS Win2003/2008)?

I could get one for around 40€ here at ebay and if it works and lets the disks spindown it would be great for my NAS.

Thumper and H33B.. I finally got MegaRAID Storage Manager installed on my Mythbuntu running 10.04LTS 64-bit. I followed a lot of different guides here and there and ultimately fought through. I think this thread was what put me over the edge - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=781204

The link H33B posted also was helpful to check framework and monitor services. - http://kb.lsi.com/Attachment782.aspx

If you go to the last post, it indicates the steps to follow. I can post if you can't get to it. It didn't work for me at first, as one of the services had trouble staying running (mrmonitor). Finally after a reboot (I rarely do), I fired it up and was surprisingly able to get it running and able to read/ "discover" my host. This was where my trouble was.

Finally logged in as root and was able to expand and reconstruct my drive (on hour 4 of 38 hours!), so I am almost home! On my way to expanding my RAID5 storage - 4 x 1.5TB (will probably try 5x) on my Perc 5i, from 3 x 1.5TB and 3 x 1.0TB. My case has room for 8 drives, so with my system drive (switching to SSD soon) and DVD, I am maxed out. This will allow me to dump the 3 x 1.0TB drives and system drive so I could even get to 6/maybe 7 x 1.5TB.

Good luck! My Linux skills have a coat of dust over them, but I would be happy (to try) to help. Thanks.
