So anyone have a way to monitor the temperatures of the card?

ok makes sense. Might as well try it since I got it for free :-)

The PERC 5/i i got a little while back has been working great! I just wanted to report that with Dell firmware, LSI drivers and the tape pin-mod, i'm able to suspend/resume my PC without issues in Windows 7.

Hibernation does not work properly but i don't mind because sleep is low enough power usage for me.

Thanks for all the help and information that this thread provides it was invaluable getting me up and running.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to the magic of the internet, i have recently ordered a Dell PERC 5/i RAID card, BBU + Cable and the SAS to SATA cables, with the intent of running it as a SATA card untill i can afford some Western Digital Red drives for RAID 5 wink.gif.

Just a few things, could someone please link or post for me the following:

- LSI RAID manager/utility that everyone has been using, as i have gone through about 80 pages mostly at random or ones that peak my interest and have followed a little, and found various references to different names of the software. i have decided to use this as MANY people i have seen so far post prefer it to Dell OMSA smile.gif

- A link to the most recent Dell firmware, i was thinking about flashing to the LSI firmware, but have been warned away by the reports of data corruption.

- And finally, a link and recommendation of either the dell driver or lsi driver for windows 7 X64, this one confuses me a little though, as people have said to be using the LSI driver but i wasnt sure if that was because they were running LSI firmware (which i didnt notice haha) or as i plan tpo stay on the dell firmware if i need the Dell driver?

I know this is alot to ask by one small person, esp on his first post, but any help would be much appreciated.

Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone who has posted on here especially the OP, with the original post of benchmarks etc, it has fueled my interest in setting up a RAID 5 biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Guys, is there any reason to actually use the LSI firmware?

Dell's firmware works fine for me.
Thanks heaps for all the help smile.gif.

sorry to be a pain .. but here come a few more qs smile.gif

- With the lsi manager, is there a way i can run it locally on the computer with the card installed so i can manage it etc? this may be a bit stupid, but i havent received the card yet, but i did install the manager, and tried running it and i keep getting a home screen saying something about servers not found? my reason for wanting to run it locally is because i want to set up the RAID array in my main pc that i use all the time, as i will be just using it as a mass media storage smile.gif. if anyone could please link me to an article or just a quick rundown?

- and finally, had anyone experienced the WD Red drives yet? on the perc 5/i or the 6/i? because i have heard so many issues with the greens, and currently blues are in very short supply of 2tb's - pretty much cant find blue 2tb anywhere in the state (possilbly being phased out?)

Thanks again smile.gif

Once you have the card it will be fine. You open it up, select your IP on the PC you have the card installed on (local PC). Then you put the user name and windows logon passord in to access all the settings to your card and RAID setup.

I've had no experience but they are supposed to be beast. I got 2 2TB Samsung F4s and 2 2TB Hitachi 7k3000s in RAID 5 atm and they are working fine.

Hello all!

Stumbled across this forum and have a couple questions if anyone has any advice.

I purchased some inexpensive and new Intel Motherboards: BLKDG43GT - They have been great for simple servers, small and reliable. Well, unfortunately they are incompatible with the Dell Perc 5i/e (I have both) and even covering the pins as mentioned at the very beginning of the forum on the 5i doesn't solve the issue. Since I am stuck here, does anyone know:

1. Will the Perc 6i/e have the same incompatiblity? They are inexpensive as well but I am pretty sure I will have the same issue.
2. Does anyone have an alternative inexpensive hardware RAID card they would suggest to use?

I plan to use about 4-6 drives with the units, SATA, on a Windows 2008 R2 configuration, just a files server, nothing special.

Appreciate any advice here and thanks for taking the time to read this.
