This thread is a lifesaver. I've read all 605 pages and I finally got my PERC 6e and my cables and fan so it will all work. thumb.gif

My current firmware version is 6.3.0-0001, I think. And I was wondering if the 6i and 6e used the same firmware and if someone could explain the procedure to update this on a FreeNAS box? I've found some other firmware, different than the OP, but I don't know if it's correct. And all the tutorials I've found on updating it were all on windows boxes.

Lastly, should I change any of the advanced setting in the PERC Bios? I'm running 6 WD 1TB Red drives in RAID 6.

Thanks.

Edit:
This is my card as it was when it arrived. 512mb cache, new BBU and an over-sized fan.

I needed an additional cable to I just ordered two of these

And I wasn't happy with the fan so I ordered one of these while I was at it.

That fan seems a little overkill?

What you should do is change the heatsink to a southbridge heatsink from an old motherboard. When i had the stock heatsink on my PERC5/i i found that it would easily get clogged with fluff because the fins were soo close. After switching it over to a southbridge heatsink it has never clogged and even with a normal 40mm fan @~4,000-5,000 RPM, it only gets slightly warm.
