PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 71

Well I received 512MB card and my benchmarks between 256M and 512MB is nil. I also ordered another cable but it hasn't arrived. I just have 3 drives on the Perc5i card and wondering will this help when I put the other drives on the Perc5i and off the Intel Raid?

Yeah the generic synthetic benchmarks won't change when you upgrade the ram...but if you want to really see the difference try making an ISO or a really big zip/rar file (with write-back cache enabled).

I think bigger cache increases IO operations per second or something

I ordered one of these. Gunna run it with 8x ocz v2 ssd's in raid 0. Definitely excessive, but, hey, if some people can spend 500 bucks on a processor, I can spend 500 bucks on a hard drive set up.

50 bucks a drive after rebate. Don't know why they're so much cheaper than other ssd's, but benchmarks I've seen have been very promising. Not quite on par with the intels, but still ought to be excessively fast.

Wow

Now if they made those in a ~64 or 128 favor at that price, I would buy 8 of them but alas it isnt worth it yet

Free, to answer your question, yes, my card is cooled with a 120mm fan right beneath it.

so.... without the typical 'run hardware raid idiot' reply, can someone help me with getting the attached drives to show up in linux on their own.

i've got a preexisting software raid 5. bought the perc5 because it was cheap and i was hoping i could use it for just its 'controller' functionality.

flashed to the latest firmware (7 something) but i don't want to nuke whats on the drives already. have a perfectly good working raid5 on there.

this is in dmsg:
[ 7.560838] megaraid_sas 0000:07:0e.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 7.560880] megasas: FW now in Ready state
[ 7.620072] scsi6 : LSI SAS based MegaRAID driver
[ 7.622032] scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.623618] scsi 6:0:1:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD5000AAKS-0 1C02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.625509] scsi 6:0:2:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.627157] scsi 6:0:4:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD5000AAKS-0 1C02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.629018] scsi 6:0:5:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.630868] scsi 6:0:6:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.632486] scsi 6:0:7:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD5000AAKS-0 1C02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5

just want to have the drives show up as /dev/sd_ without having to create a LV on every one of them (that would nuke my data, yes?)

help!

When changing RAID controllers you will probably need to nuke the drive's data as re-assembling partitions destroys the data table....

I hope you backed up your stuff!
