PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 88

I've got 8 ssd's up and running on this card now. Trouble is, they're running at about 130 mb/s according to hdd tune. Any idea what the problem might be?

Single slot would be preferred, 2 slots is alright.
I'm in the same boat here. I haven't installed my card yet but the only fan I have for it is a 40mm I pulled from an old northbridge years ago, which isn't going to do a good enough job in my opinion. I want to replace the heatsink but I need something low-profile. I would rather not waste extra slots but I have room for, at the very most, 2. I was thinking about using a Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II and removing the 90 degree bend so that the fan and fins will stick straight up from the card, toward the sidepanel.

Has anyone done this? What about a better solution?

Tried it... and heatpipe cracked at around 40 degrees (angle, not temperature).
Once again...

Well, there goes that plan. Hmm.

I have been trying to find a source for a wide selection of northbridge-style heatsinks, but I haven't found anything especially useful. OEM-quality parts would be fine.

Did you try to apply heat to soften up the metal?

I applied a lighter flame... but it's a heatpipe so it didn't get hot.

I spent hours looking... the big issue is that they are using non-standard spaced loop-mounts.

hello ppl,
i got my perc 5/i several month ago but could use it since my current pc only has one PCI-E.
i'm going to buy a new rig within the week, a E8400 with a Asus P5Q Pro and pair the perc with 4 1.5T seagate hdds in raid 5.

i would like to know if the perc has any problems with a intel P45 mobo's and the 1.5T hdds.

also if some one has any tips for a new perc user i would appreciate it
