i would like to know if the perc has any problems with a intel P45 mobo's and the 1.5T hdds.

also if some one has any tips for a new perc user i would appreciate it
You will most likely need to cover the 2 SMBus pins.
Once again...

I Run perc 5i in a P5Q pro, and you need to cover 5,6 pins for it to boot.
Also to let you know that if you use the second pci-E 16x, your Primary PCI-E
slot will go down to 8x mode. IF your Graphic card support Pci-E- ver 2.0 then the bandwidth will be the same as PCi-E 16x ver 1.1, otherwise your bandwitdh may choke your graphic card.

The only way I can get W7 to use my PERC5/i RAID array is to Upgrade from Vista 64. It cannot install as a standalone at all.

Must be something hardcoded into the driver looking for OS version. Should be an easy fix.

Brand new to this forum guys and gals, but I've just pulled the trigger on one of these cards as mentioned a few posts back from e-bay. The seller was kind enough to agree to obtaining a couple of the cable-sets and shipping them along with the card, so hopefully in about 3 weeks it will all have arrived and I'll have my 6 x Seagate ST3500320NS drives set up in raid5 with no.6 as a hot spare.

This thread is a great read and I jumped in at about page seventy-something, so I've a bit of catching up to do, not the least of which relates to updating firmware, but I'll come back if I get stuck.

I'm thinking I'll be using one of my P5K-Premium boards with 2 x 4Gb kits of G.Skill DDR2-1000 and my Q6600. I'll be setting SBS2008 up on a pair of 80Gb Hitachi drives in either raid1 or raid0 on the ICH9R controller, once I decide whether the extra speed justifies the lack of O/S redundancy.

Back in a while, and again... thanks.

Welcome...

Those 80GB are probably a few generation old. How do they perform? 50MB/s? In fact, are they used?

IMO, you would be better off getting a newer single 500GB+ drive for the OS since you're spending the money out.

Cheers for that... Already have all the hardware... the 500's are coming off a 3Ware PCI-X card in an older server (the ML150 in my sig), and the 80's I have laying around from some 6 x drive matrix raid0 fun. Agreed though... a raptor 150 or something would be nicer.
