Build A $300 For Brother

Thread Starter
My brother has $300 and wants a new rig. He does light gaming, and mostly uses his PC for music, and just everyday use.

Watcha thinking?

It must be a "LAN Box" style Micro ATX Desktop and doesn't need to be SLI.

Interested in a shuttle then?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nd&Order=PRICE

I put it in order from cheapest, to the most expensive.

Note though that the cheaper ones do not have that shuttle heatsink thing. You would have to use the stock one, or an after market one.

I would go for a AM2 rig for two reasons: cheap and good 3D performance.

mobo: biostar 55$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138112

CPU: 4400 x2 (OCs to 3.2 see in the sig) 50$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103221

Case Rosewill+400W PSU 55$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147001

HDD WD 250GB 60$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136161

RAM: Patriot Viper 4GB 78$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220293

Bottom line is around 295$ + shipping, I haven't counted an OS and an LCD. I would gladly post an Intel alternate route, but at these $$ it's impossible to find something with decent graphics for the Intel platform.

What do you say?

*The difference between the rig I've posted and what slyoteboy posted is (besides the better mobo, hdd, ram) that you can actually play 3D games on the AMD rig.

If you look a little harder you can get it even cheaper then THAT.

You can get $39.99 ram. And a cheaper intel dual CPU.

I wouldnt go much cheaper than that , I would just save the money for a new build , try and frankenstein the old one till I had enough. Need a little cost/gain analysis Wouldnt trying to go cheaper just be peeing in the wind? or is that just my opinion?
Reason is, with $300, it would be very hard to get one, but if we tried REALLY hard, I am sure we can fit in an 8500GT.

Fake Edit: If it was AMD, considering how much you save.

It's actually a fact that with a hundred more it would make a difference, but then again, 100$ is 33% more at this level.

A 8500GT isn't that much better than an integrated AMD 740 mobo, not worth 40$ anyway.
