Temps too high?

Thread Starter
My E6400 is overclocked to 3.2ghz with 1.375 Vcore in BIOS.
I have a P5B-Deluxe mobo, and a Zalman 9500 hs.
I got this system about a year and a half ago, so all these parts are pretty much outdated, but I decided to overclock them about 3 days ago.

Can you please tell me if these temps are correct?

At idle, im hitting 42-45 degrees, and during games (team fortress 2, call of duty 4, css) i hit 51-54 degrees. however during prime95, i hit 60 degrees.

I know that the Zalman 9500 is not the best option available for cooling but remember I built this system about 1.5 years ago when it was one of the top coolers.

Are my temps okay? Should they be lower?

By the way, i'm using AS5 thermal paste, and it's only been applied for 1 day, but it takes according to their site, 200 hrs, for as5 to settle in, but even then, the temps should only drop by about 2 degrees.

They are a little high...about 5 degrees too high.

I would try reseating the heatsink. Did you apply as5 properly and remove the old paste properly?

Clean everything off several times with 97% or higher icypropyl alcohol. Then use a small pea size dab of as5 in the center of the CPU heatspreader. Then spread the paste with your finger in a corner of a ziploc bag in a circular spiral motion from the middle of the heatspreader to the corners until its even. Don't forget to clean the bottom of the heatsink as well.

Those temps are just way too high for 1.3vcore. Which makes me think the heatsink wasn't applied properly.

i'm guessing I can check using Speedfan or HWMonitor, but i don't know what value I'm looking for.

Thats a bit high for a dual core, but its not high enough to hurt anything, you will do just fine if you leave it where it is, however i would not overclock it much over whatever speed it is at now, as with the prime95 test you are a few degrees off of dangerous.

dont worry though, idle and load temperatures that you have are nothing to worry about, and a processor would shut down before it would light up in flames anyway.

you can check with speedfan or just paste a screenshot of speedfan on here. although the previous guys says your temps are ok i says its too high.you should be idling at 35 deg round there.have you tried to drop your vcore and check if your system would run stable?
