$3000 + build - Page 2

-Mobos over $150 are generally a waste and I wouldn't get a SLI mobo if I wasn't SLI-ing. But heck it's only $100 it doesn't matter in the long run.

-Get a E8400.

-Those dominators are way overpriced, must be an old price they never lowered. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166

If you really want the fans they are sold here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835704001 You don't need them at all though, their function will be purely cosmetic.

- If you do get a 280 buy it for $450, all 280s are the same cards, the expensive ones are just factory overclocked, you can overclock them yourself very easily in a few seconds. Factory overclocked cards do not overclock higher than any other cards.
Anyway I wouldn't get a 280 in the first place. Get a 4850 or a 4870 or the new GTX 260, and then buy a ~$250 card in a few years when you actually need it. It will last you twice as long as spending the whole $450 right now on a 280.

-Killer NIC is just marketing, you won't notice it do anything for you at all.

-You don't really need a blu-ray drive if you have a PS3 hooked up to the monitor, but for $120 it's not bad.

-The rest looks good.

go all out man, and enjoy it! stay safe with air-cooling

Intel E8500 under Tuniq tower
x48 rampage formula
4870s in Crossfire
4GB of G.skill 1066 - they're less power hungry than dominators AND cheaper
velociraptor (load programs/games in seconds!)
DVD Burner + BLURAY BURNER! - go out and buy some bluray DVDs!
low response 22" Sceptre monitor (I have one and its awesome!)
auzentech sound card
5.1 logitech surround speakers

If you want to go Nvidia, then go with GTX260's in SLI or GTX280s if you can squeeze that into your budget, and a evga 780i FTW.

I would advise strongly against an Nvidia chipset if you can help it because quite frankly they just aren't as good as the Intel ones. The GTX 280 is also not recommended by me because:

1) A HD4870 can crossfire on Intel chipsets (which are better).
2) A HD4870 performs close to a GTX280 in some cases and is a fair bit cheaper.
3) ATi cards are known to have superior drivers and image quality.

It's your choice but I think an X48 + HD4870 would be better. Also, drop the 1000W power supply and get a high quality 850W one.

The samsung 2493HM is awesome, good choice. I will have to admit though, there is only one problem with it, you can't see the menu buttons(no LEDs on them).

And like most people have already mentioned you should consider going intel/ati. Rampage Formula x48 + 4870(crossfire!?!?).

I use an Ultra Kaze 3000 for my TRUE, awesome fan. The one I have for intake is really loud, so I had to get a fan controller. But, I didn't really notice the one I attached to my TRUE.

Tuniq tower is better for dual core processors + its cheaper. Check out what I posted and work off of that.

-Make sure you get the Thermalright 120 EXTREME (or PLUS as it may be called) with a fan.
-Why not the Q9000 series CPU? I know the multiplier is low (8 or 8.5) but I hear they OC those pieces to 3.2 - 3.4 GHz.
-Definetly go with the GTX 280 because you have the money and you will be SLI ready. But be sure to get the 1GB one core GTX 280 because 512MB is not enough for a GPU of this scale.

And of course have fun with your new PC!
