I'd forget about DDR3. It's not worth the extra expense, esp. when you choose lower speed DDR3 like you did. A good DDR2 set up will perform nearly the same for a lower price. Also, do get a motherboard with the Intel P45, X38, or X48 chipset if you plan to get an ATI card. The Intel chipsets are superior in most aspects, plus the nVidia 790i chipset obviously doesn't support two HD 4870's in Crossfire. Finally, get a CPU with a higher multiplier than the Q9300. Either a Q6700 or a Q9450 (Q9550 for the same price after the price drops).

Brings me to this list:
  • NZXT LEXA Case
  • DFI LANPARTY DK X48-T2RS LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $214.99 (nice DFI board with all the tweaking options you always wanted )
  • 2X VisionTek 900244 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $569.98 (Two of these in Crossfire, or wait a little bit and get the HD 4870X2 for around $500. If you get the latter with the plan to add one more in the future for Quadfire, you should get a beefier PSU. For Crossfire HD4870's, the 750W Corsair is plenty).
  • CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply - Retail $119.99 (don't need more than this, even for Crossfire, and it's a better PSU than the OCZ.)
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9450 - Retail $329.99 (again, after the price drops, the Q9550 should be the same price. Very nice CPU).
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Retail $104.99
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English for System Builders 1pk DSP OEI DVD - OEM $109.99 (no need for Ultimate)
Subtotal: $1,449.93 (excluding case... couldn't find the exact model quickly enough)
I second this build. Chozarts build recommendations are always similar to mine

Well, that card isnt still out, and you must know that all the recomendations by manufacturer are looking in the safest possible way...Here, they want to be sure if you have some non quality 1000W PSU it is enough...

Don't question 750w Corsair. Just go for it. I did useless hours of research to find something better at that pricepoint. I just can't XD. Only other thing that came close was PC Power and Cooling.
Wait for 4870X2. Less power than CF, more performance. Cheaper as well than trying to CF 4870s with a CF motherboard

For cooling your cpu I suggest the (best price/performance)Xigmatek -S1283 or the TRUE.

EDIT: Chozart always comes up with great builds that are within your budget, take his suggestions. GL
