I hate you have to have a certain amount of rep to post sale items, I am thinking about selling my twelve hundred case. I switched to another case so i could test an all in one watercooler and I actually like the way the new case looks. biggrin.gif

Hey guys,

I've had an Antec 900 since about 2009 and am finally taking the build apart after all this time to put in a new CPU fan and make room for some other upgrades. I've been running a i7 920 for years, but my CPU cooler hasn't allowed me to OC much. Recently bought a Phanteks PH-TC120X which I think should allow me to bring my OC up to 4ghz or so safely. I've considered upgrading to a xeon, but since I'm not really bottlenecked by the CPU I don't see a need.

Upon opening up the case again, I saw how bad the cable management is - and this is something I would very much like to improve upon. Right now it is just a giant mess of wires all over the place such that adding or removing anything is a real chore.

I've seen there have been some case mods done where holes were drilled to allow for cable management, with some great results.

My question is: what tools do I need to do this?

I have no experience working with metal, and am not too sure what is needed. I have a drill and was going to start making some small holes with a titanium bit and then using a pair of snips to make the openings larger and cut it to the dimensions I wanted. I've seen some posts though where just taking a drill to it might warp the metal, so wasn't 100% sure what I might be missing. Do I need clamps or something to support this to prevent the metal from deforming?

Anyone that has drilled some cable management holes into their case and can offer some guidance would be really appreciated.

Alternatively: If this requires a bunch of tools and is going to be difficult for someone with no experience, I might just upgrade to an Antec 1200, Phanteks Enthoo Pro, or other case in the ~100 range. If you think that is more reasonable/worthwhile, let me know.

Thanks!

Hello again all,

Please find my previous versions of my 1200 on post 4429 - http://www.overclock.net/t/365540/the-antec-300-900-1200-owners-thread/4410#post_21694457

Since then, I've customised the rig to what I feel, is the most I could possibly do smile.gif.

There's over 150 LED's of wired (8 LED's per fan and throughout the PC) with 4 cathode lights, plus LEDs under the desks, shelves, table, throttle and footpedals.

It took a long time as the space was so limited due to the amount I've built in - I've even had to use a laptop bdrom as the pc versions couldn't fit (due to the top internal rad). It can't be seen but there's actually an Alphacool Monsta 240 rad in the bottom six drives, with a carefully positioned fan controller in front smile.gif.

I've used electroluminescent wire around each internal fan and created an infinity mirror for the side panel. Also, I've seen many acrylic custom side panels but decided to add a 200mm fan to cool the GPUs, plus 80mm cooling the ssd.

The final upgrade was built for Elite Dangerous and with the intention of using VR in 6 months (hopefully!). The set up consists of:

CPU:_AMD FX-9590 8 Core @ 4.8Ghz
GPU:_2x EVGA GTX 780 ti sc (SLI)
RAM:_32GB G-Skill Trident CL8
Mobo:_ASUS Crosshair V Formula
PSU:_Antec Truepower Quattro 1200W
Sound:_ASUS Xonar D2X 7.1
Cooling:_Custom Water cooled - 14 fans (11x120mm, 2x200mm, 1x80mm) 4 Radiators (1x Alphacool Monsta 240mm, 2x Alphacool UT60 240mm, 1x Alphacool XT45)120mm)
Case:_Antec 1200 v3 customised to fit horizontal top rad, rear & 2x internal rads, plus side 200mm & 80mm fans.
OS HDD:_Corsair Force Series 3 240GB SSD.

Here's the finished product:

Well I gues I can contribute to this thread.

A whole level of "Ghetto Fabulous" sort of. This is by now my "Old computer" and retired from "active duty" gaming daily, and is instead just sits around as mostly a 'chatting and web browsing' machine as a backup gaming machine.

Quick gloss over the specs.

I7-920 era Intel Xeon 1366 W3520 @ 4400 mhz @ 1.5v (Going strong 3 years now like this)
EVGA CLASSIFIED x58 3-way-sli motherboard
2 x kingston hyperx ddr3 4GB sticks 1333 @ (I think 1652 Mhz, just realized ram speed is set wrong.. gonna have to reboot and fix that after typing this)
2 x EVGA GTX-470 Hydro Copper FTW @ 850 core & 3900 mem (custom bios, 1.2v)
Patriot blaze 64GB Cheapass SSD (OS)
3 x western digital 161 GB Blue 7200 rpm drives raid-0 (games, extra storage)
Corsair RM750 Gold power supply.

Piccies.

This is obviously a build focused entirely on function with no regard what so ever to how it looks.

It works and keeps everything nice and cool (max 50c gaming on the gpu's, max 65 - 70's C cpu loaded)

Also a low budget build with a little case modding. :>

I'm about to get to work right now on another antec 300 project with custom water loop with a 3rd spare GTX 470 hydro copper card, and a single core P4 chip as a "high end" single-core gaming rig for XP for older windows games that can't be emulated.

If there's interest I may post that one in overclock.net thread somewhere.
