Upcoming Build: Gaming. ($1,600) Suggestions?

Mainly gonna use it for gaming, older games as well as new games. (CoD4, CoD1, UT3, Halo 1&2 [maybe more]) I'm a bit lazy so here's a wish list, I'm open to all suggestions. Thought 'bout a quad core, but i don't need it. I would like to keep it as cheap as possible. Im using a 17" @ 1280x1024 for my games, or rather i will be. I've already taken care of the GFX card, 8600GT pulled from a rig i dont own.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...Number=6323685

Cold Cathode Lighting

When prices drop (even further) and i have saved up even more money i would like to buy a 24inch monitor and a 4870 or a 4870X2. Most likely will be in a few month's. (Christmas?)

Like i said, im open to all suggestions. This is my first build for myself(last one was for a friend who didnt need a 8600GT for websurfing), and i want everything perfect. As you can see in my sig, i NEED a new comp badly.

Looks like a pretty decent set up. I would definitely beef up the video card eventually, and you may want to look into the 7200.11 Seagate Barracudas. I have a pair of WD Caviar SE16 and the Barracuda is quite a bit faster. I love my WD's, but I think my next HD purchase will be another Barracuda.

Your PC components seem a bit expensive for someone who wants cheap.

I´d use the antec 900, the DFI X38 MOBO, the G Skill 4GB set ($80 cheaper than the dominators without the MIR hassle).

Also get the quaddie, more performance for later even if you don´t need it now (Q6600)

Would have given links but I´m lazy.

PS: For what you do,you don´t really seem to require a $1.6k rig, and also, get a better video card, Nvidia 9800 GTX +or ATI radeon 4850.

Thanks for all the suggestions... but im skimping on the GFX to save money. However, i would like some high quality parts.

To the person who said something about the Barracudas, the AAKS series is pretty fast. im not sure if the 7200.11's are faster, but i would imagine they're about the same, the 640 model has 2 platters. Very little area for the head to seek through. It's fast, very fast.

About the quads.... wasted money for what im doing. And there's a reason i wanted that Corsair ram, im almost certain it's micron chips... thats my most pressing question. Does that corsair ram have micron chips under the hood? i wanna overclock, not get get ram-blocked.

1) I agree, the WD 640 is a fast drive thanks to it's 2 platter design.

2) As for the Corsair, those sticks use PSC ICs...

Which is a good thing (IMHO), Crucial's/Micron's QC has become suspect as of late as I have noticed many RMAs involving said ICs. Honestly, what's in a name? The PSC based memory kits perform better(in 2x2gb configs) and die far less often.

BTW there is an open box P5E for $160 shipped @ Newegg... If you don't mind open box that'll go a long way in saving you some $$.

Oh and why 2x fan controllers?

get an X38 or P45 mobo, a Q6600, a pair of 4870s and 4gb of OCZ reaper or corsair dominator
the quaddie is worth every penny and watt used to get it (q6600)
the 4870s in crossfire will play any of your games with no issues (a single one runs crysis in DX10 at high hovering around 45~55 FPS)
the 640gb barricudas are about as fast as the 150gb raptor x drives

just putting in my 2 cents worth

Here is a link for the Antec 1200 :

http://www.overclock.net/online-deal...nsale-com.html

Also there is a 5.5% Cashback deal with Microsoft.

I personally think you should spend a bit more money on the video card as well as a monitor.

Maybe cut back some of the items on your list. Non essentials for me would be a gaming keyboard. I have the G15 and while I do not game 24/7, I think you could save 50 here and put that into a monitor.

Then with the saving on that case you would have another 50 off.

Also if you have a Microcenter around you, you can get the e8400 for 149 picked up.
