my first build

Hi guys,
I have about £900 to spend and I'm attempting to put together an SLI-ready system that I can easily add another graphics card to when I can afford it.
Here's what I've come up with so far:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131950 £113.94

ASUS Silent Knight II Socket 754 940 775 939 AM2 copper Processor cooler
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139799 £35.84

XFX nForce 780i 3 way SLI Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139340 £160.90

Antec Nine Hundred 900 - Gaming Case with 200mm Top Fan - No PSU
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/118268 £67.78

BFG GTX280 OC2 Edition 1GB Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148483 £305.02

Corsair 750W TX PSU - 120mm Fan, 80+% Efficiency, Single +12V Rail
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134677 £76.37

OCZ DDR2 2GB Kit (2x1GB) 1150MHz/PC2-9200 (OCZ2FX11502GK) Flex XLC Dual Channel Kit
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/121162 £59.99

Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive SATAII *32MB Cache* - OEM
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143288 £83.94

LG GH20NS10 20X SATA DVD±RW/DL/RAM - OEM
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141833 £15.04

Total £918.82 so only a little over budget

I'll be getting another 2GB of RAM as soon as I can afford it but since I don't plan on using Vista I don't think its that urgent.
Hoping to overclock the CPU to 3.0ghz. Would it be easy and would it get incredibly hot or not?
Any criticism you have I'd love to hear
Also, more importantly, would this system even work?
Thanks
Andre

Looks like a good setup dude... but obviously, what's the point of posting if I'm not going to give any constructive criticism eh?

First off, skip the Silent Knight... it's flashy and doesn't perform that well (especially considering the cost)... If you're looking to OC moderately, then get a OCZ Vendetta 2 or Xigmatek HDT-S1283... they're on par with the Tuniq Tower, but cost less... If you want to go all out with air cooling, get either the TRUE (if you're alright with using a slightly noisy 120x38) or an IFX-14 (if you want TRUE-like performance with less noise)

Also, I would snag a difference set of ram... you'll be paying extra for the "hybrid cooling solution" which makes no sense unless you're going to be going to invest in water cooling any time soon... either get another set of 1150MHz if you want to dish out that sort of cash, or get a cheaper 1066MHz kit... in my personal opinion, the performance difference between 1150 and 1066 hardly justifies the bump in cost

I would skip the nVidia setups for now. You won't be needing a multi-GPU setup for that really. Go ATI 4870X2 and X48, which is better value than the nVidia setup.

As killa-concept said, Xigmatek HDT-S1283, and skip the memory (bloody expensive stuff). Get some G.Skill PC8000, which is roughly the same price for twice the capacity.

As I said before, I would really go with ATI. The 780i boards are unreliable, and the GTX280 gets beaten by the 4870X2, especially at higher resolutions with AA.

I have attached a recommended build here.

I disagree with the unreliable 780i part of your post.
Mine has been rock solid since day 1.
My only complaint on the board is the noisy fan.

I like the suggestions. I've owned a 680i, a 780i, and an x38. I like the x38 more than any other platform. 4870x2 is a good bit better than the 280. Also if you're planning for future SLI, 750watt COULD be cutting it close on dual GTX 280's if you overclock. If you really want to go Nvidia (and can wait a bit), the GTX 280+ 55nm should be out relatively soon. It's higher clocked and should be closer to the 4870x2. 790i is also an option, though rather expensive.
