Hey guys I'm back!
So these are my current settings in BIOS, I have saved them as User State 1. I've bolded out stuff that I have left as defaults, and italics = stuff I cant change. I have left out the units because I'm lazy.
Intel EIST: Disabled
System Clock Mode: Manual
Memory clock: 800
CPU Ratio: 9
CPU Voltage: +0,1500
Memory Voltage: 2,10
VTT FSB v: Auto
NB Voltage: Auto
SB Core Power: Auto
(ok JESUS christ my hand writing is awfulä...)
tWTR or t*** Auto
So the computer boots straight into windows without any problems. After checking that nothing is on fire I start SC2, because that's why I'm OCing my cpu.. and what I discovered is... weird...
I start SC2 with all settings on High, and find that I'm stuck at 15 FPS. If you are unfamiliar with SC2 this is the logon window and I have some lag when I enter my password, the very lag I was hoping to get rid of when I was at 3,6GHz..
So I start scrolling thru the menues and find that it still seems to be capped at 15 FPS... I go to the video menu and change all settings to Ultra (shaders/textures on Very Ultra or Extreme or w/e, basically as high as it will let me set all settings) and after clicking apply I suddenly get 60FPS in all menues. Muttering "This must be wrong..." I load up my most recent replay and I speed it up to Fastest x6. The replays seems to be running smooth, I can zoom in and move the screen without causing any fps drops/stalls. I then restart SC2 and start it with all settings on max, and badabam - 15 FPS???? This is not exclusive to the login screen but also in all sub menues. After some more troubleshooting I find this pattern:
Every time I load SC2 it will give me poor framerates in the menues. If I load it in high with 15FPS I can watch a replay (this is on a quite small map and I got dropped after 5 mins.. but usually when I lag in SC2 it starts instantly) without problems.
As soon as I change my video settings in SC2 the 15FPS cap seems to be removed and everything looks lovely (I have yet to play an actual game tho).
I am very curious why this happens!! I understand that perhaps I'm asking this on the wrong forum but perhaps someone with more experience could help me out? Perhaps it's a driver issue or not even something to worry about - but I really want to know what's going on.
Could this have something to do with "prefetch"? is it something I should disable/clear? I will update this post with screenshots of CPUZ and stuff in a second and also add a signature with my hw...
edit\\ ok so just as I pressed "send" the computer locked up and wouldn't react to anything. Here is the screenshot of how it looked before.. I was asking some stuff about the SPD tab in CPU-z but I guess writing it again would take me more time than actually googling it...
I will now attempt to raise the NB/MCH/FSB voltage just a tiiiny bit. Wish me luck.
I have raised them slightly and lowered the vCore so that it now runs at 1.256v according to CPU-z. I will download prime95 and test if it can be demmed stable. As long as I do not set Shaders to Extreme I get 60 fps in the menues of SC2... great start =)
I was able to stress it in prime95 for 1 hr 7 minutes (completed 45 tests) so it looks very promising.. now i gotta pause it to try sc2 before its too late Edited by 0tso - 5/25/10 at 11:44am
