I could boot into Windows at just under 3.6Ghz, but Prime95 would fail after only a few seconds. I had it stable for quite a while at 3.45Ghz, but that was at 1.375v, so I decided to settle for a 3.2Ghz at v1.318v. That's normally how I overclock though - I'll push it as far as I can within the voltage range I'm comfortable, then when I find the max stable (for 30 mins or so) I'll knock it back a couple of pegs. Stability and a little extra longevity is more important than a 2% speed increase you'll never notice in real-world use (unless you're doing a 24 hour rendering job or something, which even then is minimal).

Im sorta in the same boat as you... at 3.2 is stable 24/7.. doesnt crash.. however anything over 3.2 crashes... the most ive booted up in was 3.5, had 3.4 stable for a few hours and i had 3.3 stable for a few hours.. however keeps BSOD. maybe my ram is at fault?

I'm stuck at 3.4 for 24/7 stable. Try dropping the CPU multiplier to 6x and RAM multi to 2.00 and getting the system stable at 500 or so fsb.

Bit of a thread necro here but I've only just been playing around with mine.

I seem to have it stable at 3.2Ghz at 1.2V, but my idle temps are 46°C and 60°C at load. Do they seem reasonable or would I be best re-seating? Its my first quad so not sure what sort of temps I should be looking at.

Hopefully some people still lurk this forum, I just have a question after exhaustive Googling, I did not get a definative answer on this.

One core on my q9450 is always ten c higher than all the other cores. Is this a known issue with Chooser. I'd love to oc the balls of this chip but the one core temp has me not pursing more than 3.2 ghz the other cores stay some what cool at a higher oc around 70c and 75c, but the other core is well getting aroundb85c. That's when unusually say fudge it and stopbthe load test.

Perhaps I should use another paste currently using arctic silver 5 with my h60 cooling system (with another fan mounted on the back of it for the push pull)

those temps are way too high for that low of an overclock. what vcore are you at?

i got my x3350 (q9450) to 4.0ghz with liquid cooling and my temps stay under 50c. i do recommend using a better thermal paste. i use IC7 Diamond, but shin etsu and mx-2 are also very good.

have you tried re-seating your h60? it might not be making good enough contact. that would definitely explain those high temps.

Ah thank heavens someone still here.

Yeah I just reseated the bracket today. Which may have been some issues.(though that one core has always been hotter since I got this chip years ago)

So with reseated bracket and fresh paste the three core were idleing at 40c but core 0 was 50c. Also I restored all the defaults in BIOS till the paste has time to cure up some.

Cpuz is reporting my vcore of 1.224v

Brian please fill out your rig config this will help us help you if we know the hardware and os.
just made my rig list, sorry to not have full details, i didnt build bought it used after my dog spilled coffee all over my laptop.

Just was slowly doing replacements on this rig so I got h60 since my buddy used it and loves it and also quiet, as i am getting a deal from my buddy for x6 black edtion mobo and ram which will pretty much replace everything that was in here along with my 6870 2gb card on its way from a rma
post #1089 of 1105
Very understandable sorry to hear about your bad fortune. My former rig was a 9450 witha ahci 9 board and was only able to get it to 3.6. Had a tunic tower for cooling. We will help as much as possible..
Cool thanks man, guess ill let some time in for the ppaste to set. I have found other posts about people saying tthey get a hotter core like mine but nothing ever out of the posts
