ok, so i went 2 OSH yesterday and got some supplies.
1 1/2" copper pipe cap
2" - 1 1/2" galvanized funnel thing
6-32 all thread and nuts
and taped it all 2gether with insulation tape...
well, epic fail
1st off, i didn't have any real retention hardware, so i used the stock plastic piece that's used 2 attach HSF's 2 the cpu, that came with my mobo. 2nd, it was a lil small. 3rd, my cpu doesn't like 2 get below freezing.
i started by throwing some dry ice n the "pot", added a lil alcohol and turned the power on... no signs of ignition from the monitor. so i took the pot off the cpu, put hair dryer on the cpu and then started the comp, this time it started. so i quickly put the pot back on temps dropped 2 about 1°C with my cpu and 3.0GHz and 1.3vcore. i loaded windows and it worked fine, except the dry ice was melting a lil fast, so i added some more. i watched the temps n windows as they started 2 go back 2 0°C. they would hover around that mark and every now and then i would c the temps spike 2 -27°C, kinda weird i thought. then once the comp finsihed loading up vista and the cpu was at idle, i saw the temp go down 2 -1°C and boom, comp crashed. no BSOD, just off.
well i tried it again, this time upping the voltage to 1.55vcore. at that voltage, i couldn't keep enough dry ice n the pot b4 it melted away. and still i was only getting 26°C on the temp readings. bleh
when i get back 2 work, i'll make a proper pot and have 2 get a processor that doesn't cold bug at freezing
