Yes it requires lots of skill. You need to know what type of ship and weapons to use to counter your expected enemy, and you also need to know when not to fight.
For example, I know WOW is completely different, you have to be aware of your cool downs and your enemies cool downs. You have to know what to do with your class. Mages for example need to know how to kite and keep melee away from them and stuff like that.
What is EVE pvp like? Is it timing cool downs and proper combination of skills or what? I really can not get a picture of what it is like from either reading or videos. The only thing that is bugging me is just how does PvP work out? I really can not get a grasp of it and I have watched several videos.
Is it learning strengths/weakness of each ship/weapon?
edit: I am curious, because I really do want to play it. I love MMORPG games, but I want to make sure I pick correctly. Fourteen free days is nothing and it will not give me a good grasp of the game.
As long as I get to punish people by attacking them and stealing their resources and items in world PVP (which I can from what i got)
pvp requires skill (both as a team and as an individual)
the economy is intricate i am a happy man
