As someone who doesn't play EVE, but finds what is going on rather interesting, can someone explain the significance of what is being attacked in the protest? And what's this "titan" thing that's been mentioned?

This is CCP we're talking about.

The actual monument it's self isn't that symbolic or interesting, it's just a big dumb structure. What is significant is that it's in the largest market hub system by far in the game, and attacking things en mass causes a lot of load on the server that runs the system, effectively shutting it down. It's like a DDoS from inside the game it's self. Shutting down this system cripples a large part of the in-game economy, which is one of the core parts of EVE.

Titans are the largest class of ship in the game. They are very powerful, very difficult to destroy, and take months to construct from the ground up. They're not allowed in high security space. In this case it was actually unrelated to anything else that was going on, the titan was destroyed as a result from a bug in game, and was reimbursed by the GMs, who accidentally put it in high security space. It was quickly moved out.

CCP or not no dev is that stupid. if a en mass unsubbing is going on the shop would have been already removed, in the end it probably will anyway.

i suspect something like this happened when you could first could sell plex for isk.

As ive said on the main boards people are not going to unsub over this stupid stuff. Too much time and money already invested in their character. My only problem is the prices are insane for digital clothes.

Again, this is CCP we're talking about. If nothing else, they're fanatically stubborn.

Not at all, PLEX were generally well received. The only thing that's ever come close to generating this much ire is the T2 BPO scandal where a dev (CCP t20) helped BOB unfairly. This current mess has drawn significantly more reaction from the community.

I was thinking of coming back and starting up training another race of ships and weapons instead of a new character since all my learning and general skills will cross over plus there is no harm in having my shield skills over my armor tank. Though is there going to be any problems going from a Caldari to another race?

However, I really can't decide. At first I was just going to do Ammar, but the thought of only two types of damage kind of turns me off. Only reason I don't like Minmatar is becasue their ships look like pieces of scrap metal, but I could get over that if projectile turrets are worth it these days. Any one have some advice on this?
Cross training for different ships is never a bad thing. The only shortcoming will be that you have to train whatever guns the race you decide on uses all over again.

And even though Minmatar ships look like they're held together by duct tape and chewing gum, they aren't nicknamed WINmatar for no reason. They generally favor neither armor or shield tanking by default, so they can be flown in either direction, and projectile turrets are just plain awesome. You can pick your damage type, there's no travel time, and their falloff is beautiful.

Gallente isn't a bad race to pick either. Their mission ships are drone boats, and drones deal pretty decent damage and you can still pick damage types. The only downside is that gallente turrets only deal kin/therm, but they deal MASSIVE amounts of it [particularly blasters].

EDIT:

Also, for anyone interested, my in game character is Samuroka, and I'm in one of the most hated and most fun corps in EVE: Suddenly Ninjas =]

Plex had a much better reception since its use was only limited to the subscription. I think there would be a lot less outcry about the NEX if CCP took a hardline about limiting it to cosmetic items, keeping it opt-in. Fears that the NEX can/will directly impact gameplay (for instance additional skill remaps) galvanized the opposition to NEX.

I just came back from a 6 month break! Bought a plex and I know have 360m to spend getting back into my battleships, I will have a reasonable amount of time for eve but not much between work and other things. Also, I'm looking for a corp that does general missioning and mining in high sec, and occasional PVP in low/null, send a message to Rixon01 if you know a corp!

So a query that I imagine has already been answered in this thread: What is the advantage to a 21 day trial over a 14 day if I am looking at logging in tonight?
