There isn't really any bad ones, as you can train anything and as long as you have a up to date clone you wont lose it.

I'd suggest getting evemon and using that to get a rough guide to what you want to be looking at as it will suggest skills that would save you time.

A good skill path is entirely subjective, find out what you want to do in the long term

I haven't really gotten much time to spend on it since I installed it (spent about an hour yesterday), but when I last played (about 2.5 years ago), it seemed what I mostly did was mining and the occasional mission. Other than those two (especially mining), are there other good ways to gain ISK?

Mining = No longer a good way to make isk.

Best "safe" way I found to make money was to run missions for a high quality agent in 0.5 space for loyalty points. Use loyalty points to buy faction ammo. Sell faction ammo on the market. Once you can solo level 4's relatively quickly, looting/salvaging is a waste of time.

Take the time to train up your mission related social skills too. They raise your isk/hour and LP/hour dramatically.

Go Minmatar, there's nothing like the feeling when you hit some poor NPC ship for 10k damage....

Already went Caldari. The benefits/drawbacks of each race aren't really apparent when you're setting up your character.

If you want to pvp, train for t2 frigs and make out your secondary skills and move towards t2 cruisers. That's win win. Cheap t1 frigs are actually great for pvp and quite cheap.

There aren't any differences in race, while you can train for any race's ships you like.
