Overclock.net EVE Online Club

I've been given the go-ahead to revive OCN's EVE Online Club! This thread will serve as an informational resource for newcomers and a place to chat for current members. Got any questions? Ask it here, a member should answer it rather quickly.

About EVE Online:

Eve Online (stylised EVE Online) is a video game by CCP Games. It is a player-driven, persistent-world MMORPG set in a science fiction space setting. Characters pilot customizable ships through a galaxy of over 7,500 star systems. Most star systems are connected to one or more other star systems by means of stargates. The star systems can contain moons, planets, stations, wormholes, asteroid belts and complexes.

Players of Eve Online can participate in a number of in-game professions and activities, including mining, piracy, manufacturing, trading, exploration, and combat (both player versus environment and player versus player). The character advancement system is based upon training skills in real time, even while not logged into the game.

Eve Online was released in North America and Europe in May 2003. It was published from May to December 2003 by Simon & Schuster Interactive, after which CCP purchased the rights and began to self-publish via a digital distribution scheme. On January 22, 2008, it was announced that Eve Online would be distributed via Steam. On March 10, 2009, the game was again made available in boxed form in stores, released by Atari. The current version of Eve Online is Odyssey, released June 4, 2013. In February 2013, EVE Online reached over 500,000 subscribers.
Common

All hardware regardless of platform must support the following minimum requirements:
  • CPU that supports SSE2
  • GPU
    • with 256 MB VRAM or more
    • that supports Shader Model 3
    • that supports DirectX 9.0c
  • Drivers: DirectX 9.0c (included)
  • Audio
    • that supports SSE
    • that is Direct Sound compatible
  • HD: 20 GB free space (or more)
  • Network: ADSL connection (or faster)
  • DVD-ROM: 2x-speed DVD reader (for boxed editions only)
The minimum screen resolution for the EVE Online Client is 1024x768. For optimum performance always use the latest available drivers for all hardware, including in particular audio and video hardware.

The expectation for the Minimum System Requirements is that all game features can be used on low-end hardware that still meets those requirements. All graphics settings are set to their lowest values. The resolution is set to 1024x768.

The expectation for the Recommended System Requirements is that there is a smooth and visually enjoyable experience across all game features. All graphics settings can be set to their highest values. The resolution should not exceed 1920x1200, though higher resolutions can be used with lower settings.

Please note that when in large-scale situations, such as fleet fights, you are encouraged to drop all graphics settings to their lowest value.

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 / Vista / 7 / 8

Recommended System Configuration:
  • OS: Windows 7 / 8

Mac

The client does not run on PowerPC-based Macintosh machines (G3/G4/G5), or laptops or Mac minis equipped with Intel graphics chipsets such as the GMA950 or X3100. Versions of the MacBook and Mac Mini with NVIDIA graphics chipsets are, however, supported.

Supported hardware is MacBook Pro laptops, Mac Pro machines and iMacs. All these machines have to meet the following minimum requirements below.

I've always liked the idea of EVE, but it's too expensive for me. Not to mention I'm not such a huge fan of the gameplay mechanics.

Probably why I'm a developer for AYUMiS
Unfortunately it isn't exactly a competitor at the moment

Too expensive IMO.

I love most of his reviews, but he made an ass of himself in that one. Corps are the entire reason most people play! It's boring as hell without being in one, I did it for a month when I was even more of a nub.

Ah I'd like in on this

BackToTheZebra - Valcaria - Caldari (but amarr ships ftw)

Been playing EVE off and on since almost launch, but abandoned several characters for varying reasons. Ended up reactivating one of about 20 trials I took to re-experience the game, partly due to the fact I made over a bil isk in a week after character creation. Currently residing in Providence region amongst CVA & pals, specifically I'm in Paxton Federation & am a director in a member corp. Finally will be able pvp well with the combination of my character's finally de-gimped pvp skill suite in addition to a shiny new computer that won't make me lag in a 5 person gang as soon as I build the machine featured below (sept 13th estimate)

I used to play this game all the time. I got bored cause my friends left and our 0.0 space got taken over by AAA. This was probably 6 months ago when the whole BOB war was going on. I had two accounts too, it made me kinda sad to go. EVE is a fun game. My Amarr character was almost to capital ships, but had like T2 everything command ships, etc. My Caldari character was my freighter pilot/researcher/miner/production alt.

I just started with the trial. Finished mining and now the servers are down for maintenence. Advice on the game?

#22 ·
For one, do not start mining out right away, you think ti is good cash, but doing some missions till your mining skills can compete is better...Unless mining is your thing...

I am up for this club...

Tenhrwppe - Gallente

Around 10m SP...I cannot afford it anymore sadly, or I would be over it like flies on vinegar.
