i just started last night and it seems like you guys are talking a diff language lol. this is crazy involved, crazy
Very...very involved, lol. Here's an example...

When fighting with turrets, there's a LOT of factors that can decide or influence a fight...here's the ones off the top of my head:

Optimal range (farther out from that, the less chance you have to hit it)
Transversal velocities (if it's faster than your turret's tracking speed, it'll be a pain in the ass to hit, if at all)
Damage types (different ammo for different enemies, shield tanks, armor tanks, etc)
Ammo range (high optimal/low optimal...sniping vs gank setups)
Rate of fire
Your speed
Target speed (both speeds relate to transversal velocities)

Just a few

I'd like to think Turrets are a bit more complicated...but that's just me.

With the missile nerf - both are just as complicated I think.

I still use turrets more than missiles though (Caldar/Gallente cross-train ftw!)

Missile nerf? Do elaborate plx. Last change that I heard about (granted, I don't really pay much attention to missiles) was the cruise missile (I think?) and bomb changes.

I'm thinking of plopping down a small POS tower somewhere in high-sec in a dead end system with no station, and going to town on the belts there. Whatcha think guys? May buy a Freighter/train up for one...would make moving the ore rather easy.

There used to be...choosing a race/bloodline/school/whatever used to decide what attributes/skills you started off with. Back then, you couldn't remap your attributes, so you were stuck with them. For example, my old Caldari Achua (sp?) was the best way to get yourself into mining/industry back in the day.

The patch before Apocrypha (or however you spell it) nerfed missiles by making the signature radius - to - explosion radius more balanced. (i.e. you can no longer insta-pop small ships with big missiles)

The last patch further improved and changed the stealth bomber as well as bombs.

What would you be using the POS for? Just to dock the freighter? IMO thats a money hole.. Reasons:

1). You cannot mine moon minerals in high-sec
2). You need charters to run the POS (in addition to the fuel)
3). I doubt mining high-sec ore will offset the cost of running the POS

You also need +5 standing with that space's faction (which you faction warfare guys should have no problem getting)

A small faction tower would hold enough fuel for about ~20 days or so. Expect to pay 10-20million for that amount of fuel(s) unless you mine some minerals (you can't in high sec) or spend weeks mining and stockpiling ice (you need a mackinaw to make it worthwhile)

POSs do become worthwhile when you are mining moon minerals and making reactions and/or selling the minerals for profit. (low / null sec)

You can also run laboratories which allow you to research blueprints and make and sell copies thus further increasing your profits.

You cannot easily copy or research blueprints at an NPC station because of the huge queues to get a print started. (Check the science/industry tab of your local station and see what the wait time is for researching/copying prints - it's most likely 20+ days)

A mobile laboratory allows you to manage and start/stop your print jobs whenever you please.

I have my own Medium faction tower in low sec where I mine hydrocarbons and research blueprints. It costs me around $25 mill per month (26 days) to run it and I still don't break even. I'm starting invention so hopefully that'll help offset the cost once I get a few T2 print copies invented and sold.

Hope that helps

*edit and oh yea, a freighter is going to run 600-700million at best so you'd need to make that back in high-sec ore before you break even on the investment (which will take quite a while)

I'm approaching 21million SP and I just now am starting to get involved with POSs. It can take a lot of time to make them useful.

I'd mainly be using it to mine in systems without a station, and not have to deal with a hauler (dual boxing...well...triple). I can easily make a hundred mil isk a day if I work at it, so fuel costs aren't a problem.

Ack, gotta leave for lunch. Post up any other questions you got and I'll answer 'em on my phone.

Yeah I guess mining for hours on end would get you quite a bit lol. I don't think i've got the patience for that.

Even so, you can bump ships out of POS bubbles. I've seen it done before. Even in high-sec - people will try it. Then someone just has to board the ship and fly away. 700mill asset lost.

You could use a ship hangar array but idk if a small tower will work for that.

How could a ship get bumped out? I've heard of it, but never actually understood how its done.

Hell, I won't even bother with guns, just throw a bunch of hardeners on and piss off any attacking forces.
