Just did a couple 1v1 duels with a guy from the Caldari militia...gonna put the videos on Youtube and post up once they're uploaded.

Basic details:

Guy offered me a 1v1 in his Coercer against my Rifter. I was cautious as my mate (who flies much better than I do) just barely beat him in the same situation, but I agreed to do it after he said he wouldn't fit any energy neuts. 8 lasers and neuts against my little frigate doesn't sound too appetizing. Head out to the system and watch him duel another guy, and he loses. He warps back with another Coercer and we duke it out. I get a few nice shots in, and rely too much on the auto orbit and he gets a lot of range and places a number of key shots into my hull. Luckily I catch up and get within range, and about half armor (for me) he runs out of cap and he's defenseless. I pop him before he can regain any and that was that.

Afterwards, he's like, "hey, I wanna try out this Rifter fit against you"...and at this time I don't care if I lose since I haven't been finding many fights anyways. I agree and he picks it up and comes back. Turns out his fitting relies on a dual web to slow his targets down. Sadly (for him), that's only an advantage for me...I've got higher Autocannon skills so my tracking is higher than his in the first place, and to add onto that, I've got a tracking disruption script on so his tracking speed goes WAY down.

I'm just sitting there with him flying around me tearing through his shields and armor...and I eventually pop him without even going down to 30% shield. He may have had a better chance without webbing me actually. If he had a tracking disruptor like I did, he may have won. Maybe I'll find out sometime in another duel

Vids coming up sometime tomorrow morning...gotta finish this paper I was working on before I started dueling

Maybe you guys can help me out, maybe I'm missing something. I'm certainly not trying to bash your game, I absolutely adore Sci-Fi, and I got excited about EVE when I first heard about it a few years ago. I downloaded it, booted it up and spent 30 minutes tweaking my character, was a little irritated at this in the future because creating that character felt absolutely useless since I never leave the ship.

I was very impressed by the high quality graphics, and life like spacescapes, nice enough to make you want to spam screenshot. Once I got past that I started tooling around, all in all pretty simple, most complain about the interface, but I actually liked it. A few weeks in I was sitting on a nice amount of ISK, so I purchased the ship I wanted, traveled for 68 minutes because the auto pilot wants to drop you out of hyper space 20 minutes from the next jump gate for no apparent reason other than a retarded pacing mechanism, as if I'm going to sit there and click target 9 different jump gates... anyways I got to my destination and bought my ship, flew it back to my home galaxy, and started looking for upgrades.

Trained, trained, trained, then trained a little bit, upgraded it up. Then I just sat there wondering what to do, I got the ship I wanted, upgraded it with the parts I wanted, so whats the point of progressing. So I'd just sit in the space station chatting with people and helping new players, then I realized I was paying 15 dollars a month for a 3d chat room.

Maybe I missed something, seems like a wonderful idea with terrible delivery. Maybe you EVE hardcore players can tell me what aspect of the game I missed, and I might pick it up again.

I like the social aspect...but losing and killing tons of ships every week makes it exciting. Like I just posted above, I got two kills (solo) in an hour, so it's not boring at all (to me). Maybe you didn't find the right niche for yourself? Some people like PvP, some people like mining, some others prefer manufacturing, and the hardcore weirdos prefer to work the market (kidding!).

I like PvPing and mining, that's what works for me. I do a bit of manufacturing for my corp to replace ships, but that's about the extent of it.

I'd give it another shot and try everything you can before you cross it off your list.

Did they fix that auto-pilot dropping you extremely far away from the next jumpgate yet?

Also yes, that was the other thing I didn't understand, Corporations... I seem to remember joining one and climbing the ladder while doing missions, are player corporations similar to this? Can you please explain them to someone with very little experience with EvE...

Player corporations are similar to guilds or clans...they serve the same purpose, IE: group together like minded individuals to work toward a common goal. That goal could be simple as blowing other people up (like I do), getting rich off mining, or making a name for yourself by conquering your own space and running it.

Auto-pilot is set to drop you off 15km off a gate on purpose. It makes it harder (well, longer) for people to make money by trading across the universe in huge freighters or something similar.

Trust me, the 9 jumps you complained about isn't far at all I did 30-odd jumps (manual of course...) in a battleship in 0.0 (lawless) space before. Now THAT was nerve racking.

Got Kells?

Yea, I'm training up an alt for Hulk mining. I sold off my miner for a L4 misher...so I need some moar income. Nothing says "cash" like 33,000m3 of cargo space and enough T2 crystals to last you a lifetime.
