Is this game awesome? Because I got the idea to build a computer just to play it (among others like The Old Republic and Spore, which don't run on my iMac G5...). I sure hope it is...

i think its a great game, but you really have to try it out to see if it suits you. There is a lot of depth, but perhaps not the kind that might appeal to some people.

It really depends on what you look for in an MMO. If you are looking to be guided through a storyline with traditional character classes/skill trees, EVE is not going to be a lot of fun. In many respects EVE is one of the most community oriented games on the market; however, it is up to the individual to take the initiative to find their niche.

The PvP is a brutal and intense affair, which benefits greatly from planning, tactics, and of course skill. There is also a great sense of accomplishment when you come out on top to overcome the odds. This is further heightened by a real sense of risk in time and invested currency. Personally, I think it’s the most gritty PvP I have experienced since the days of MUDs and Ultima Online.

To say the depth of EVE is vast would be an understatement. Even after 2 years of intermittent play, there are still facets of the game that I haven’t touched. At any given time there’s about 35k-45k players logged on the server, and thousands of player corporations, each pushing for their own agenda.

A few words of advice. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; but don’t make the same mistake twice, but also assess the risk of your actions.

So I'm an amarr pilot thats flying with rockets now for my AF. Do I have to be within a certain range for them because I'm not seeing any kind of optimal range indication when I check out the info.
Range of rockets you calculate by how long rockets last and velocity. (Just multiply). So look at rocket info and do calculation.

Velocity * Flight Time = Max range for Rockets & Missiles

Just make sure the flight time and velocity take into account your skills and any ship bonuses. EFT (eve fitting tool) is a quick way to do all the calculations since you can import your character profiles directly into the program. There is no optimal or falloff for missiles/rockets.

Also note that the calculation assumes that your target is not moving, so take into account any time that the rocket/missile may take to follow the target.
