Asus Rampage Extreme Overclocking Guide - Page 77

Simple jump rolleyes.gif After having read the specification, i found that nothing is complicated. you just need to assign the needed options and that's it, you are done, everything works! I was naive smile.gif

Here's the thing the RE is very picky about ram and if those sticks are not rated for the board at Corsair you're probably not going to hit 1800 without some major tweaking. I would go back to 1600 since that works and it passes Memtest #5.... then bump the ram speed up in small increments until it fails,...then make one change at a time until it boots and passes test #5.

Hi all,
Been reading the posts on here and I have picked up some good tips over the last few weeks so firstly thanks for that! I have had a Rampage Extreme x48 motherboard ever since it came out but I have now decided it is time to upgrade. So I have two questions if anyone can help? Firstly I am waiting for delivery of a QX9970 chip and a Noctua NH-D14 for cooling the chip. Has anyone got this cooler and did they have any problems fitting it on the motherboard? Case size should not be a problem as I have an Antec 1200. I know the cooler has a problem clearing some high profile rams and also looking at the other side of the chip on the board there is a small elevated metal block (poss heat sink) which I believe I had to originally screw into position. Does the cooler clear this block if not can I remove it without any overheating problems?

Secondly I have read lots on the internet, contacted a few different RAM companies and read most of the posts on here to try and find out to find out what RAM my board will support as I cant obviously buy any from the Asus QVL as it is so old, but unfortunately I am not having much success. I found one article on the Corsair forum stating that CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 which is a 4*2gb of DDR3 at 1600mhz set will work in my board but only at 1300mhz. I was hoping to have at least 1600mhz if not higher. What I am looking for is preferably this highest mhz and most amount of gig my motherboard will take whilst remaining 100% stable BUT with as little fiddling in the bios as possible. I have seen the recent post where 16gb will be recognised by the board but until lots of people say this works and is stable I would prefer to have just 8gb. I do intend to overclock the CPU and the RAM at some point but being a Newb on the subject it is going to take me a little while to get to grips with. So some room to be able to overclock any of the RAM you suggest would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hiya Folks!

Getting a new cooling solution shortly so wanted to ask your thoughts on how to get my REX over 643.5fsb. My settings are listed below. Those get me booting at 585 then I use setfsb to get the rest of the way there. Funny but I can raise setfsb to over that number (have tried over 649) but cpu-z still only shows the 643. The result and the settings below were using an e8600 under ss phase.

Just hoping for some guidance at this point...it'll be a couple weeks or so before I can actually test at those speeds.

tia!

If anyone is looking for a REX board, send me pm. I have everything, the only thing I used out of the box would be the sata cables. Everything is mint.

Hi everyone.

I have read a lot of posts here but still a bit confused! redface.gif

This week i am going to try out this board benching with DICE and a C2D E6600 w/ 2 x 2GB Super Talent 2200 CL8 RAM.

Can someone provide a BIOS settings template to start off with please? Basically so i can understand more about this board!

Much appreciated thumb.gif
