The 30 Second Dummy Plug - Page 5

My radioshack only had 22ohm, 47ohm and 200ohm resistors. So I soldered 3 22ohm resistors in series to make a 66ohm one.

How do I know if my plug is working? I just reinstalled vista and have not put F@H on it yet.

When you plug it in and go to your display manager it should detect it as a generic plug n play monitor.

I tried to set up dummy plugs as described here and they don't seem to work for me. I got the 68 ohm resistors at RS, cut & inserted them into the DVI/VGA adapter as shown.

When I plug in a DVI or adapted VGA from a monitor into these cards the screen flicks to black and the recognize a Generic monitor on the card. When I insert these dummy plugs nothing happens at all. And my F@H client stops working once a WU is completed (won't download another & restart until I plug a physical monitor onto that card and manually refresh the client).

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

They're routed correctly. I feel like a dufus now...

Apparently my system just needed to be rebooted with the dummy plugs installed for them to work. I had some Windows updates to install, did that, rebooted and now everything works fine. Although the ppd are still much lower than I would expect (about 10k ppd from an 8800GTS and two 8800GSs).

If you put two or more different cards in one system it can drastically reduce your PPD, so that's probably the cause of the lower PPD.

I still don't exactly understand what this is used for?
Do you plug in the montior, and the dummy plug, set up F@H, unplug the monitor and everything's good to go?

this is more for like if you're running one computer but you have extra gfx cards. you plug in the dummy plug and it acts like a monitor. so you can use gpu2
