The 30 Second Dummy Plug - Page 9

Cyber, I know that this is about folding. That's what I've been trying to get across. Something isn't clicking somewhere though. I'm talking about using an nVidia GPU, dedicated to Physx, doing hundred's of Op's per Second, for Folding @ Home. It's my understanding that ATI is unable to do this currently, but you can offload 100% from your Proc to an nVidia GPU dedicated to Physx processing. Isn't that what all this is about? That's why I was saying the other stuff about the GPU speed of an nVidia card dedicated to Physx. That's how I ended up in this forum to figure out how to make the plug for a dedicated GPU without physically connecting a monitor to it.

lol

I have some Nvidia cards Folding but I was unaware that Physx would help with running the client.

I've never built a rig that uses Tri SLI or SLI and Physx so I really don't know about it firsthand.

Are you running one?

Go to nVidia and nVidia's SLI Zone's Forum. In the forum look under the Physx Thread. You can now run F@H on an 8 series and above gpu, that's Cuda Enabled. You install the latest driver's with the Physx Software Package and configure your gpu as a dedicated physx card. You're off-loading the processing from your cpu to the gpu 100% using Physx. It's new..It's kool.. Check it out. ****, you can Go QUAD SLI now w/ nVidia!!

It's for folding. You have to have a "monitor" to be hooked up on the graphics card for it to fold. And the dummy plug fools it into thinking its a monitor.

teh purpose is to make your computer think that you have more than one monitor plugged in.

and sway... from what i know about F@H... it uses CUDA to fold... but not PhysX. also from my understanding, physx requires CUDA or a dedicated gpu... so i don't think folding uses physx. so the drivers your are downloading is for CUDA and not PhysX. even though the drivers might be in the PhysX forum but thats because PhysX requires CUDA.

You don't need a dummy plug with Linux either.

I understand that Cuda is used. Now, you can also use Physx to fold by dedicating a gpu to fold using Physx. Has anyone looked in on the newest functionalities lately? Check into it..
