Wet cloth behind a fan!!

Thread Starter
I have an 80 Inch fan sucking air into the case, i thought why not keep a wet cloth behind its inlet(from where it is sucking air, outside the case)

Will this affect any components inside the case??

What would that do? Computers aren't humans. They don't need to sweat or use evaporation for cooling.

This will:
1) Decrease airflow
2) Increase chance of short
3) Pointless long-term since you have to rewet
4) Pointless short-term as it will do nothing to improve temperatures
Once again...

Maybe you'll suck through a few drops of moisture and sizzle everything

So....you want to re-wet the rag every half hour, just to get a 1-2 degree difference in temps.....IF it does lower the temps in the first place?

Wow, an 80 inch fan must take a big cloth to cover...

It's a good theory, just not very practical. True, the wet cloth will cool the air going in, but it will add humidity and that's not something you want to add either if you can help it. That in addition to what was previously said about it drying out really quickly.

The reason people feel cold when wet is that our bodies are warmer than ambient temperature and the evaporating water on our skin takes thermal energy away from our bodies and it is taken by the water vapor. Wetting a tshirt will not affect the temperature of the air passing through it, it would create a large risk to the components in your computer however.
