Fear Factor -- the build

Thread Starter
I’m going to share my building experience with you all. This is my first Intel rig in many moons. The last one I built was a Pentium 3 class and everything after that was AMD.

In addition to going back to Intel I am also going to water cool this puppy. I chose to name it Fear Factor because I love the game.

Now for the equipment list:
Cosmos S case – love all the room.
E8600 CPU cooled with a D-tek Fusion V2
Asus Extreme Rampage with stock Fusion block replaced with new Swiftech model
Evga GTX 280 water cooled with a Koolance VID-428
Corsair DDR3 Ram 1600 4 gigs
VelociRaptor Drive 300 gig drive
Corsair TX750
Water Cooling System:
3 Noctua 120x25mm
Swiftech MCP655 12v DC Pump
EK-Multioption Reservoir 150 rev.2
Black Ice GT Stealth 360 radiator

The case I’m going to leave mostly stock and the changes I have done are remove stock grill and fan in the side panel and I replaced with an acrylic window, I like seeing what’s going on inside. I mounted 120mm fan under the case instead of inside I like the clean look the give the case on the bottom plus now the PS air filter has easy access. On the drive rack I’ll be mounting a black acrylic sheet to act as a case badge display area.

Front of case

Front fans and water pump

Little case mod here I mounted intake fan on the bottom, much cleaner inside now.

Radiator mounted in the top, I have since reversed the ports to the front now.

Radiator fans

Inside bottom -- I'm going to try to keep it crap free

Pump and reservoir

Custom made bracket

If you are familiar with the Cosmos S case I removed the grill and 250mm fan and replaced them with a clear acrylic window.

The rest of my stuff will be here this week so I'll post more pictures as I go.

More like "light breeze", all the case fans are low rpm and quiet. I'm just hoping the top radiator fans have enough pull.

might I ask why you went with a 280 over a 4870(x2?) on a rampage?

I already had the 280 from my old system. (AMD, 590 SLI Chipset) Maybe down the road I'll change, I only run a 22 inch monitor so the 280 does a great job.

Update
UPS and Parcel Post made deliveries today. My orders from Newegg and Sidewinder Computers came today.
I received the MB, HD, CPU, and more cooling stuff. I am expecting delivery Friday of the new Swiftech NB block and the Koolance VIS-428 for the Evga GTX 280.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Work log today:
Remove ASUS TIM and reapplied quality TIM to all the heat pipe sinks on the mother board and added nylon washer to the NB and SB assemblies. Installed CPU and water block and then plumbed as far as I could go until my other blocks arrive.
Here are the pictures:

Pump assembly

Temp install and running

Stripped Evga GTX 280

Old NB block... stock junk, but pretty.

Junk is gone! wait til you see new block ... first class

Installed

Another angle

leak testing CPU block

Front radiator hook ups.

Next delivery is Friday... until then cheers
