Asus P5N-T Deluxe Stable Bios Settings

post #1 of 50
Thread Starter
I know almost every P5N-T Deluxe owner has spent days/nights on end pulling their hair out trying for a stable setup with this motherboard. I've created this thread to show what settings made my specific system stable so that others may use these settings for reference or to potentially solve stability issues.

System Specs:

Motherboard: Asus P5N-T Deluxe Bios Version 1201
CPU: Intel E8400 45nm 3.0GHz 6MB L2 cache
RAM: 2x1GB(Dual Channel) Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC2-6400 (Installed in A1 & B1 slots)

Bios Settings:

A.I. Tuning: Manual

System Clocks:

PCIEX16_2 Freq(MHz)=100
PCIEX16_1 Freq(MHz)=100
SPP<->MCP Ref Clock, MHz=Auto

FSB & Memory Configuration:

FSB-Memory Clcok Mode=Unlinked
FSB(QDR), MHz=1333(1333.3)
Mem(DDR), MHz=800

Overclocking:

Memory Timings Settings: All set to Auto
Spread Spectrum Control: All Disabled
CPU Int. Thermal Control: Disabled
Limit CPUID MaxVal=Disabled
Enhanced C1(C1E)=Disabled
CPU C State Capability=Disabled
Execute Disable Bit=Disabled
Virtualization Technology=Disabled
CPU Multiplier=9.0
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology=Disabled
LDT Frequency=5x

Overvoltage: (Most of your time likely to be spent here)

VCore=1.21250V
CPU VTT=Auto
Memory=2.150V
NB BR04 Chip=1.20V
1.2V HT=Auto
NB Chip=1.50V
SB Chip=1.55V
GTLVREF=Auto

nVidia GPU EX=Disabled

SLI-Ready Memory=Expert

HPET Support=Disabled(This can be found in the APM Configuration under the Power menu.)

Now of course these settings are specific to my system, but anyone could definetely get some reference voltage values such as for the NB BR04 Chip, NB Chip, and SB Chip.

CPU Frequency:3.00GHz
RAM Frequency:800MHz
RAM Timings:4-4-4-12 24 2T
FSB : DRAM= 5 : 6

This setup was stress tested using Orthos Stress Prime 2004 with the "Blend - Stress CPU and RAM" test for a little over 6 hours. There were no errors and my maximum core temperature on both cores was 48°C.

Note: I plan on posting again to this thread with any stable overclocked settings in the future.

I just wanted to mention that I was also hoping other P5N-T Deluxe owners would post their stable settings(stock or overclocked) to give a variety of setups with different components and/or overclocking. Thank you.

(Just updating for posterity)

Fought with my system for over 5 years, having a QX9650 quadcore and using 4GB (2x2g) OCZ Reaper HPC CL4 800mhz ram. Random freezes got bad after switching to 64-bit Windows 7. Using OCZ's recommendation of 54+ for tRFC made no difference at all. Finally discovered the bios was setting tWR to 5 instead of 6, that seemed to cure the random idle freezes, but there were still random load freezes. Setting all the voltages besides the required ram voltage never seemed to help long, though over-volting the ram to 2.2+ seemed to help for a while. In the end, the culprit seemed to be tRC more than anything else, the bios setting 24 for that was correct, but using 30 seemed to fix things.

Now, finally got 8GB (4x2g) G.Skill PI-B CL5 1066mhz ram. Seemed to work well for the first 30 hours of uptime, but then things crashing that never crashed before started happening (including a bluescreen). So had to up the NB voltage to 1.44.  All ram settings are being set correctly, so it should be just the NB and/or other voltages this time.

Anyway, that's my "stable story." Still can't get the QX9650 to run over 3.0 reliably so that's a dead issue. lol

Are you running stock or aftermarket HSF? If aftermarket, what brand and model#? Also, what thermal grease are you using?

I was able to run my FSB at 1600MHz giving me an overclock on my E8400 from 3.00GHz to 3.60GHz and both cores ran around 42-45ºC under 100% CPU load in orthos. My CPU HSF is a Thermaltake CL-P0369.

I use a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme wich a Noctua NF S12 1200 fan

have 4 more of them in chassi.. 2 front intake 1 back for out and top for out..

thermal grease is just Arctic cooling MX-2

Sounds like your HSF should be able to lower your temps more than it is. Try using some Arctic Silver 5...MX-2 is a non-conductive/non-metallic thermal grease. I've found from experience and from reading on the web that conductive(silver or zinc oxide) thermal grease transfers heat much better. Silver is the best IMO. Also, make sure the HSF is installed correctly along with the application of your thermal grease.

Another factor that could cause your high temps is how much you overvolted your CPU(vcore). You might want to try finding the lowest vcore and NB voltage that your overclock will run at stable.

I think that the MX2 is designed so that it isn't electrically conductive...for use on GPU's and Chipsets. Where as the Arctic Silver 5 conducts both electricity and heat transfer. The only component I use any type of electrical conductive thermal grease on is my CPU/HSF.
