I like to use Nvidia's "do not scale" scaling option which basically just displays the pixels and black bars around anything extra. The reason I use this is my monitor is big 2560x1600 and some games (crysis) are just too much for that resolution, so this "do not scale" option pretty much turns my monitor into a smaller lower resolution one which I like better than stretching to screen. Do ATI drivers have this game thing?
