So I'm getting it tonight at midnight when my direct deposit comes through. Just a quick question:

Is this the best I can do? Should I try out a single card solution or do you think SLI 9600GT is pretty much future proof for now?

Like....will I be able to run Alan Wake in DX10 at a decent resolution (720p and up)

Man you really don't seem sure about this.

Anyway, 9600gt sli is going to be your best option IMO. 550w PSU is not going to give you much legroom in the current gen of graphics cards anyway.

Alan Wake isn't released yet ^^

But yes 9600GT will be fairly futureproof

Finally did it. Not quite what I was expecting. I'm seeing good FPS's for the most part but it's buggy sometimes. Crysis runs fairly smooth at around 25-40 with CCC's config. Warhead stays around 20ish. I have the latest drivers and am running at 1280x768, no aa or v-sync.

SLI 9600GTs do not beat a HD4870. I know they are good because I have them, but it is behind a 4870 when AA in enabled. I'll give you a 3rd option, sell your 9600GT and grab two 9800GT. Two 112sp GPUs > two 64sp GPUs and it is about the same price as a GTX+.

Edit: You should put an OC on the CPU [I know, like I should tell others to OC it when I haven't myself yet], but 720p is still a low enough res to be CPU dependant. You'll see more benefit from higher CPU clocks than most who use a higher res monitor. Also, why aren't you running 1360x768?

1360*768 seems like a higher res and in my eyes that usually translates to less frames.

I think I'll just sell both of them within a month and get another SLI setup. How much should I sell them for?

yeah, a cpu at 2.4 will bottleneck the 9600gt sli, you have to at least get ur cpu to 3.2-3.3 to ease up the bottleneck, you'll see heaps performance. btw, may i ask what psu ur running?

Yup. Don't bother upgrading until you at least OC your CPU. My e2180 running at 2.7GHz took about 1/3 off of the scores I should have been getting with my 9800GTX+. Now, with my e5200 running at 3.5GHz my 3dmark score increased by 3000 points.

You could sell your 9600GTs, but they aren't the problem. You haven't even hit their full potential yet because of your CPU.
