Like I said, the Crucial Ballistix I've linked to are a new revision, they use less voltage, and so far haven't had a bad rating on newegg, but so few people are purchasing them, because of the recent history. The RAM is double sided, since they're a 2x2gb, and I don't think anyone has produced single sided 2gb sticks with decent timings yet. I'm conisdering both of these because of their price and overall reputation. Patriot is decent, and Crucial has had a very good reputation until recently. I think it's worth giving this new revision some consideration.
As far as RMA's go, Crucial is so easy to RMA, I've never had an issue with them, so I don't know if you had a bad experience or what, but I've had to RMA 4 kits, and it's all been hassle free. Like others have said, the sticks work great if you don't give them their rated voltage. Under 2.2v, the older sticks work great(and are working great for me right now, I just want higher density).
I would buy Muskin, but the Patriot or Crucials will be $110 after rebate, the Mushkin would be ~$160 after rebate. I don't plan on going beyong DDR2-1000 if I can help it, and the Ballistix and Patriot seem to be EPP ready, so they should work at DDR2-1000 easily.
