I replaced my 9600GT today.... - Page 2

Thread Starter
*sigh* I think I should have gotten a 9800GT OC or an 8800GT. I got almost identical scores. I was really stoked to score higher than I previously did with the 9600.
I'm thinking it's got to be my cpu bottlenecking things.
No, there's not much of a difference in performance between those two cards ANYWAY. Apparently you don't read many benchmark articles because that will tell you that it isn't worth the upgrade. And yes, you SHOULD get rid of that X2 4200+.

When I can afford to I will. But when I do, will the 4850 wake up?
Don't worry about bottleneck. Once you get a higher res monitor, it'll put more strain onto the GFX card. I'm curious to know your results in games such as COD4, if you own them. I'm sticking w/ my cpu, and I plan on getting an hd4850 also...so you won't be alone.

Well, I could always install HL2 and Crysis if you want FPS marks.....then again I don't feel like reinstalling the 9600GT to compare but I can def do it with the 4850.

4850's aren't known for their benching capabilities
They're known for great gaming performance even with AA/AF on

Also again, your CPU speeds are rather low
That has an effect on your benches and performance

No, I just mean the results you get from the 4850...I don't need to know the ones for 9600gt. I would love to know what you get in crysis. Could you try on minimal, because that's all i can run . I run 1024x168 on minimum in warhead and get like 13-40 fps all around. I would greatly appreciate it. For some reason that link keeps taking me to the benchmark I just did of my own system. What was your 3dmark06 score?

It's a solid upgrade, and it will really show when you enable AA/AF.

Don't go slowly upgrading the rest of your PC though to match it, your next upgrade should be a rebuild. Still, your build should serve you fine for a while longer at the res you game at.

LOL this is a rebuild. In the last 2 months, I have dumped $400 into this thing including the purchase of the 4850 today, $100 for a new case, $45 for some memory, $90 for the 9600GT, $50 for the power supply.
Only thing that I have that Was new when I first built the system is the CPU, hard drive and optical drive.

FWIW, my 3dmark06 score was 8003...a whopping 30 points higher than the 9600.
I don't have Crysis Warhead but I have the first. I will install it now and patch it, then run the benchmark on minimal for you and post results.

You did this w/ your CPU on 2.2 stock? I plan on getting the first crysis too. I really enjoyed warhead, so I def. will. What's your cpu score in 3dmark06? Also, try to oc your gfx card too. I'll look forward to your tests and results.
