If I had, I would just attribute it to bad luck, and take what steps were necessary to solve it.

Getting angry about DRM is a lot like getting angry about a monitor with a dead pixel or getting a DOA mobo or hard drive from newegg. It sucks but that is life. Until people stop stealing games the developers are going to make some type of effort to curb piracy, even if that effort is ineffective/misguided.

As I said before, get angry at the freeloading and sometimes profiteering pirates that caused this, not the game devs.

I'm not saying I love DRM, or even particularly endorse its use, but using it as a reason to skip a game all together or as justification to steal a cracked version is pretty much lame.
There are people with issues. Yes, it is small and usually the complaints come from annoying teenagers on forums, but the problems are there. Out of the 10 recent games I have touched with some sort of modern DRM, two of them had annoying problems which turned out to be unfixable on the particular machine I was using at the time, so whatever problems DRM causes on the system level are minimal and should really not be taken too seriously (definately not at the dooms day level some people like to think).

But you miss the point. The fact that a game even has such high level DRM should be enough reason to boycot it, just for the principal of the thing. Yeah, it's an idealistic crusade, one that most either don't care or don't believe it's valid, but you got to realize that the concept of DRM conflicts with some very basic principals that certain people hold in high regard. To simply dismiss the issue is, well, rather moronic.

... and it's not the developers who decide to include DRM or not. Most actually oppose it. It's the publishers, with who they have contracts with, that force DRM on the products.

DRM has problems with a smaller sect of people (Maybe)... but honestly and truthfully DRM DOESN'T WORK! *gasp* I know scary right? That's why Spore was working OVER a week before it's actual launch. *Gasp*

Not everyone, hell the majority may not even get it. But I like to buy used games, I like to play games that I borrow from friends, I like to trade, and do things with my copy. I can't do that with Securom... even though it's been cracked. There has only been proven ONE working DRM, and that's Starforce, and people cracked it, so that's not even viable anymore. They typically only have a problem for the first month or two after it's release. Only Version 3 has given harder problems... but that too has been cracked for quite some time now.

The only DRM should be a CD key, if you want to play online or update, to check if it's valid and there isn't multiple IPs running. Also 1:1 copies prevention... which is really easy to do.

I hear nice things about Steam, but to be honest, I like CDs I can hold trade, borrow, lend. I can do that with my console games WHY can't I do that with my PC games?

They're treating us like fools, a cracked copy avoid getting a rootkit installed and less bickering as I wouldn't need to call EA telling them that my copy has been installed 3 times because I lent it to my friend. It's just dumb. Oh noes, I'm a PC user with friends, that like to borrow games from each other. I must be a freak or a rarity.

Depends who they classify as gamers, every joe who owns a Xbox 360 or someone who has touched a console in the last year... I HATE being punished for something I didn't do, and pirated versions of things don't include these, so there is MORE of an incentive to pirate things...

People will pirate games regardless. It's just that now they have come up with a "valid" excuse for it. It's really sickening how people try to validate their pirating.

Do you not even know what DRM is? Im really guessing you do not.

BTW, you dont own windows, and it is not your property.

You do, however, own the hardware Windows is installed upon.
I don't think you should be forced to install something you don't want onto your hardware.
But at the end of the day its the game developers call and we can't do much about it except ***** and moan, or pirate the game. I personally just support developers such as Stardock who share my opinion that DRM is totally useless as much as I can.

Spore's Securrom contacts EA. About what info, we dont know.

Also, the hardware is mine, and the os is mine because I paid for it.
My property -> My rules -> No hidden, uninstallable securom bs.
