No need for a sad face, read the thread and you may learn about another kind of 'bong' (it would be pretty amazing to see somebody build a little bong cooler for a laptop....)

How big does a bong have to be? Can it be portable in terms of LAN parties?

Yes, although you have to be careful transporting it if you intend to do so without draining it, and you have to worry about it tipping over. A naja/voletti/swamp cooler, which is horizontal piping with towels draped over them, is more stable in that regard.

As I recall, someone built a tower-style cooler that was only a foot or two high, although it was several inches wide, and it was sufficient to cool a decent rig. The really big ones are pure overkill.

And are all of these good for non-subzero cooling?

Happens all the time. Take a look around, though, an evaporative cooler outperforms radiators while costing less.

An evaporative cooler won't take you down to the dew point, which is the sub-ambient temperature where condensation forms. You can reach sub-ambient temperatures, but you don't have to insulate your components. A radiator, on the other hand, can't cool past the ambient temperature.

I'm planning on building a horizontal cooler when I have time and money for it. They're phenomenal.

Nevermind, they seem to large to be portable.

EDIT: Unless, I make a large fat one.

EDIT: Would a vertical or horizontal cooler be better, what is the noise level for these?
