This is why this design is so good - at least in my opinion. The substrate cloth - when it gets dirty just put it in the washing machine. If you don't want to shut down while doing this, a second set of towels is pretty cheap....

DirtyDuck, if we changed the name of the thread / club to something like 'Evaporative Cooling Club' then we would get less witty posts about bongs, etc. The name may bring some people into the thread but I doubt that many of them have built any sort of evaporative cooler. Just my

^^ thats exactly why I came in this thread, thinking I'd see a thread dedicated to smoking devices. I had no idea this cooling method existed! But after reading every page I decided to build one. Gotta leave it the same to draw more bong lovers in

To answer nub-- I can get it about 20" high inside the desk. I will flip the cooler and connect the exhaust hole from the reservoir to the 4.5" hole in the top of the desk. This way, evaporated water will still escape into the room. I may not get to work on it this weekend, but I may pick up materials on Sunday.

My main concern about using this type of cooler in your desk, is that since it is enclosed what is the chance of mildew, etc on the wood?
Instead of building one of these, you may be better off making a cloth tube to hang inside your tower bong.

Hard to see it but the entire inside of the cabinet, although not stained, is still coated in polyurethane. No chance of mildew at all. Plus if I run ducting directly from the res to the exhaust port in the desktop, its gonna flow straight up anyhow. No worries though, I still have to fix my block before I even try something else. But now that I've proved it works I would definitely like to shoot for a silent system. I'd like the MCP655 to be the loudest part.

Actually I was a broke ghetto mofo and wanted to OC my computer but didn't have any decent cooling to teach myself how to overclock on. I wanted as good of cooling as I could get so that if I messed something up it would not blow my proc. I didn't have the money to buy a $200 rad and 6 120mm fans, res, pump, block etc. So I tried to build my own block out of an old heatsink and a copper cap. A great friend of mine sent me a pond pump and I rigged up a bong for 20 bucks from home depot. However the block failed so I got a Fuzion online for like 60 bucks. so really...besides all the random little things like fittings and tubing I paid just about 100 bucks for my whole WC setup.

I will show off the new cooler when its set up...sorry its taking so long...

Rampage Jackson was added, welcome!

Don't respond to the guys that post those dumb posts....just report them with "delete please" if you see them.

I would never change the name of the thread...look at the number of views hahahah I think this thread does just fine on its own. I just need some pictures of a nice bong to put on the OP.

Hey Ira!! how ya doin bro?

Wow, right now I've spent $250+ (though I have a 6+ ft bong and parts for a Naja cooler). If I get a 5xxx series card for Christmas and a waterblock that will be over $300 but the OC pwntential will be amazing.

EDIT/UPDATE:
I got all my cooling goodies for my Naja cooler and have the sides of the manifold assembled but not the drilled pipes that go in between. Drilling several hundred holes on a convex surface is always fun.

I am using a 22 gallon, deep Sterilite container. I will have 6 drilled lengths of 1/2" PVC running across it lengthwise and I am going to drape $7 worth of heavy felt over it. I will mount one or two fans and filters on the lid and be done with it. Overall, it set me back only about $25 where my bong set me back $40; neither of those prices includes the $5 worth of brass barbs I bought for my pump.

Again, I have the sides of the manifold dry fitted and still need to cut and drill lengths of pipes to go between the two halves. I will hopefully get the pipe cut, drilled, and everything glued together by tomorrow. This will hopefully beat my current setup and provide me with about a week or more between refills. It will also let me submerse my pump, dampening the noise even more (assuming I find something to set it on to dampen vibration).
