Get 2 of these DVD Burners instead of the ASUS since they're sata and not IDE (which is a pain to work with):

Looks excellent. I would opt for a TRUE over the Tuniq Tower. Even a Xigmatek s1283 is better.

Not even 16 and paying half? Sheet I've been saving forever grabbing deals whenever I can and barely finish it off.

You might want to consider waiting to look at the latest stuff out in Jan.

He already explained that.

Also, are you set on OCZ RAM? Those are horrendously expensive.

Can anyone find benchmarks between the Tuniq, TRUE, and the OCZ vendetta II?

Here is a list of "the best coolers out there"

http://www.overclock.net/hardware-ne...rformance.html

Tuniq is not there, but TRUE and vendetta + some other great coolers.

That's quite a bit of money, wow!!!

I'm just going to point out the things I don't think fit is all.. There's many very good items on your list nonetheless...

Why RAID10??? That hardly makes sense for a gaming rig imho & if you were dead set on going that route, you should consider a separate RAID controller. Adding to that point, maybe consider going RAID5 with One of These Units. Or maybe mirror a pair of 'Raptors (or Samsung F1s) that have your OS & Games installed on them.

That Rampage is an incredible board, but we are soo close to the release of i7 that this board is going to drop in price faster than our stock market has the last couple of months. If you are going to stick with skt775, maybe consider a more moderately price board with the features you really want.

I also second the mentioning on the price of the RAM. There are G-Skill sticks that can overclock to equal the performance of those OCZ at less than 1/2 that cost.

I've always looked at putting together systems with the emphasis in order of importance in the entire build. I think if you were to just play around with some of your selections for Hardware, you could probably consider getting yourself a QX CPU.

Now, I'm much older than you & have probably a bit more experience, but maybe consider buying some of your stuff second hand from "Trusted Members" of the forum. You'll be able to really stretch that $3k & get a monster system... Maybe even get yourself into x-fire right away as well. The other good reason for shopping in this manner is computer hardware drops in value really quick once it's not brand new.

I hope you enjoy putting this together!!!!! You are going to have a system many people here will be quite envious of!

The last thing I will add is maybe contact CyberDruid & see what he could put together for you for $3k.... that is, if you want the "bling" factor as well.

Indignity, thank you for the feedback.
Raid 10 is for the reason of data security, but if a Raptor is faster than two 7200 rpm drives I will look into it.

Indeed I will need to think about the i7 line, which would change the mobo and ram requirements as well. Seeing as this build is a couple months off I could see that.

Also as far as the second hand idea goes, I like warranties.
