So through work I got a copy of the Windows 7 PDC build, and then ran the little 'update' to enable the new taskbar. Although it is not the full-featured taskbar that will be in the final build (the 'peek' feature is not in it), I have been using it for 2 days, and I must say that I am a fan.

Since I primarily use Vista and OS X occasionally for trying to replicate issues at work, I can see how some say that is like the Dock, but then again it feels so much different than the dock. Really, it is just a mix of the dock and the Windows task bar. The new functionality is very nice, I love how opening multiple windows of one application will not completely populate the bar, and the mouse-over preview and select is very nice indeed. The best part of the mouse-over preview is the ability to close windows from this view. Very nice to be able to close the app without having to completely open it. I am very surprised on how smooth the operation between the previews is, and how polished it is.

The most impressive thing about it though is the subtle things that it includes. Whenever you mouse over the icons, they will light up and follow your mouse, and each icon lights up with the primary color that the icon is. I.E. the Firefox icon is primarily orange, and there is an orange highlight, and the IE one lights up blue.

Using this for the past 2 days has been very nice, and I cannot wait for Windows 7 to be released!
