Does anyone have experience using the rotated motherboard tray with directCU graphics, specifically the Asus 6870 Direct CU?

Is it really as bad as they say?

I'm using the RV02-EW (AP181s) with an EVGA Classified Edition GTX 590 (15% increased fan profile in EVGA Precision), i5 2500k and Antec Kuhler 920 (Coolermaster Sickleflows in P/P at 1,300rpm). Under full stress (for a few hours) during a gaming session of Crysis/Crysis 2 my CPU temp maxes out at 56 celcius and my 590 tops out at 77 celcius.

They are perfectly reasonable temps. Sure you could always do better with watercooling or different cases, but when still on air the difference will be a few degrees at best.

I love seeing sweet FT02 builds yours is no exception

I do wonder why all the recent shots I see people are pulling the 6-pin GPU power cables around the 'front' of the case, instead of tucking them behind the mobo tray - any particular reason for that?

Mine are pulled back inline with the GPU and fed around the space behind the tray

It's because you partially block the airflow over the back of the GPU.
