Can't dominate my dominators...

Thread Starter
The only way I can make them (2x2gb) run good and error less is using them @ original specs:

1066mhz @2.1v (5-5-5-15)
Wich, so far, forces me to use 9.5x400 (3800mhz) for CPU settings because they won't run stable at any other speed.

Here's where I have to admit I'm newb and need help..

It seems like the memory HAS to be linked to CPU in some way? No matter what settings i seem to try, the bios still boots showing:
"4gb (speed) memory Interleaved mode"

1-What does interleaved mean here?
2-Whats the difference between "DRAM FSB strap" 266mhz-333mhz-400mhz?
3-When you all talk about linked or unlinked memory, what exactly are we talking about and is it related to FSB strap in any way? How do i "unlink"?
4-What would be the first steps to try and make the memory match my favorite CPU setting wich is 9.5x438 @1.35
5-DRAM Voltage, original specs only?

I know this is a lot but i really could use a couple hints here :-)
Thanks

Tatsuo

When running 400FSB, is your memory set at 800mhz? Post come screens of your current memory settings.

Are the Dominators compatible with your motherboard? They have a few compatibility errors.

If you have an EPP setting in your BIOS, set that on. That will kick it into 1066 mode.

You need tRFC of 50+
Try tRFC 65 and you can lower it later

Assuming we're talking about the system specs listed in your signature...

Yes, memory speed & FSB are always linked.
The frequency the memory runs at is directly derived from the FSB speed & then the RAM ratio you are using.

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interleaved_memory
In short, you want it interleaved.

2. FSB straps are basically ratios for the NB. Internal clocks & timings for the chipset are adjusted when you change the strap.
What RAM ratios you have available is dependent on strap is set.

3. Unlinked/linked is more of an nFarce chipset thing; don't worry about it for your P5Q-D as it doesn't exist on Intel chipsets.

4. Based on 9.5x438, you have two likely ratios you can use.
5:6 (DDR2-1052) & 4:5 (DDR2-1095).
If you set the strap to AUTO, it'll give you those two RAM speeds.
Make sure you have tRFC set high, as mentioned by 18 is # 1.
I'd set it to 60 for now.

5. Set 2.02 for vDIMM, as the P5Q series overvolts by about 0.08v, which means 2.02v = 2.1v actual.

We all have p5q but i didn't notice any option for interleaved, where can I set this?

It'll automatically set that if the DIMMs are in the correct slots for dual channel operation.
