If you have a palm grip I would definitely consider the MX518 or G500.

I've been rocking my G5 for years... to the point to where the pads on the bottom are almost worn. Haven't had any problems what so ever.

I love my g500 for battlefield 3, I've played some counter strike with it but I have never really been that good at the actual CS game, pretty good at gun game and surfing though!

Honestly though, i had an intelli 1.1 for about 7 years previous to this month and it worked great.

You guys are oversimplifying. What constitutes as a great (gaming) mouse will vary from person to person, which is what makes a mouse the single most difficult piece of computer hardware to recommend to a person since your recommendation is entirely subjective. The two most important factors when selecting a mouse are (1) how you hold the mouse (i.e, palm grip, claw grip, or fingertip grip) and (2) the shape/size of your hand. Then you can look at all the technical specifications. For the record though, I think Razer products are a joke and I use the Logitech G9x, which works quite well with my fingertip grip. If you're just purchasing a mouse for the pretty packaging it comes in, however, feel free to waste your money on a Razer.

The Logitech G9x, RAT 7, and Sidewinder have all served me well. I personally own the RAT 7 and my friend owns the other two. The RAT was nice because of how adjustable the palm area was. The pad on my hand near the wrist would actually bruise or become tender after a semi long gaming session. The mouse is very adjustable, refined, and has great DPI control. I m not saying one is better than another, but this one worked well for me.

I will say, it is bull crap to say, "it is just a mouse". I ve had cheap, high end, fluff, just about every end of the spectrum mouse and the moral is that you get what you pay for. In many games it may not matter, but when precision is necessary to get a kill or you have to click something precisely to keep an entire raid alive, well then **** gets real.
