... so some psu suppliers realized that homeboys would be better served by giving the buyers the options to route only the chords they need instead of having all the fittings and connectors on one or a few chords. If you have a computer with a lone hard drive and a single optical drive, why would they need a sleeved set of wires for 4x hdd drives, multiple opticals, etc.... Modular psu's allow you to only use the connectors you need. They improve case airflow, cutting back on restriction, and also keep tjhe case looking and performing cleaner.

but most of the time you pay premium.

You could just tuck the wires behind the mobo board.

do modular psus usually cost more? **EDIT* ahh okay, so they cost more. lol. bummer. seems like if u getting less u shoudnt have to pay more. haha right?

seems better to get a modular psu then, so u dont have excess cables. does that mean i have to buy individual cables then if i get a modular psu?

Modular psu's supply the different cables. Worth the added expense, especially in a smaller the case scenario.

OK then here is a different PSU wattage calculator that is more in depth.

@drinksoy - My next build will be water cooled, and I don't mind spending extra money on the one thing that EVERY OTHER COMPONENT in my rig is dependent on. (there goes my humble opinion again ) If I spend an extra $50 on an overall investment of at least $2000, what's the harm?

so about the

Thermalright Ultra-120 CPU Cooling Heatsink
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835109125
if i got this, do i need to get a fan? if so, how would i kno what would fit and how to connect it.

also, any problems with fitting inside antec900 case?

read good reviews on that cooler, so was started with that as my first idea.

is there a better cpu cooler that would be better to buy?

slightly off topic, but since im buying a fairly old board, im assuming im going to have to flash bios? how exactly would i do that. first dl the updated bios from the manufacturer website.... then what?

thanks

When you unpack a new power supply, you look and wonder how you can hide all the extra wires your not planning on using! That's when you wish you ordered a modular psu. If in a corner, its hard to complain. I think the modular is worth every penny.

Yes, the TRUE will fit within the 900 case. Yes, you also would prefer a fan (low rpm model for quietness). This is where you needc to be careful. A TRUE will fit on some, but not all mobo's. The Xigamatek S1283 is another option for cheaper, I use it. I'm impressed. Past watwer/cooler guy.
