so what about a fan then? is that needed. or is the true meant to just be "passive" cooling... is that the right term for it.

I agree. When I bought my first modular PSU, it was very clear why it was a good choice right out of the box.

@drinksoy - The Thermalright CPU cooler is perfect. It is a very good cooler, and you would be hard-pressed to find a better one. The size fan you need for it is in the name...120 LMAO. So get a 120mm fan and have it pulling the hot air from the cooler i.e. on the back of the cooler facing the back of the case. I recommend a Scythe S-Flex Medium. You should have no problems fitting that in an Antec 900. That is a very roomy case, and with its airflow, you can go with a quiet fan on the CPU cooler (low DBa and low/medium CFM).

If you run stock cpu speeds, fans are not needed. If you play games or multi-thread, I'd advise buying a $10. fan to fix on the cooler. Xigamitek costs about 35. with a fan. Best deal in town.

So, should we build you a rig, or have you got one set?

No it is uber quiet. I mean dead silent. Because of the incredible airflow in that case, and the number of fans, it is graveyard silent. The good build quality adds to its quietness as well. I speak from experience, as the computer shop down the street from has one on display, powered up and running, and i could not tell. I even put my ear a foot away from it, and still could not tell it was on. It is an oustanding case, and was actually the runner up too the case I have now (see in sig). I am happy with my choice, but I would have been happy either way. Do not fret, the Antec 900 is an excellent choice.

BEDTIME, a new build is half the fun in configuring. No rush. Take the time first to know what you really need, anything more is, just more than one needs!

looks like im almost there. you guys helped me alot and im going to probably go w/ the 750w corsair. but ill look into a modular psu before i buy.

just got to figure out if i need a soundcard or not? not sure if just using the mobo will be adequate. probably just gona build the system first, get it running, to go youtube and find out if the sound sucks or not? haha.

still need to figure out gpu. as of right now, i dont game. but i would like the option of light gaming in the future, like able to play starcraft 2 when it comes out, or other games. but i dont have much time for it. so i decided i wont be going xfire or sli. im thinking sticking with a 512mb card should be ok. seems average?

other than that, if you guys think ive overlooked any component or aspect of my build?

thanks again to everyone. i felt lost before but this has given me a second wind. haha ill be on my way soon enough thanks to you all. WOOT

will check in 2m. gona let this all settle in while i sleep. 2m ill have some better more refined questions im sure XD

You def. stuck around past the half hour you promised, so rep to you. That's good peeps doing good things

@drinksoy - I am off to bed as well...the sun is coming up. If you need any more help or advice, I will be back on tomorrow. Just take your time with the decisions you make. Best to sleep on it anyways. So far, your rig is looking very solid, very solid indeed. I am actually a little jealous, as I love planning a new system out like this. At least I can live vicariously through you

the HD4850 will be perfect.
if you're really hankering for a modular PSU get the HX620. otherwise, stick with the TX750.

an HD 4850 will be fine for light gaming. even an 8800GT will do.
