I've ran this on a BE-2350 at stock pretty well.
Well, "Monkmachine" has some pretty sound advice above, with the whole "Clip Capture" thing. As soon as I figure out what's wrong with my main rig, I'll definitely turn that off and see how it goes. I just find it sad that I get 12 FPS on GTA IV, but I can max out Crysis with 25+ FPS consistantly at my native resolution. I mean c'mon, if it can max out Crysis, it should be able to play ANYTHING out right now.

Once I get it running again, I will most definitely be checking into "Clip Capture" and see if that does any improvements. If it doesn't though, I will continue my boycott .

Thread Starter
GTA4 isn't GPU dependent at all, it's all CPU.

Core i7 rapes... I'm starting to wonder if Rockstar Toronto didn't just make an xbox 360 emulator and release it as a game. Would explain why it's so CPU dependent.

Right, I loaded the game ran a bench to see if my differnt ram timings made any differnce to my fps (they didn't lol), on the benchmark results screen i alt+f4, then reloaded the game, did two missions. I then changed my settings from Medium , High 27 37 26 1 to M H 30 60 60 (someone else in this thread ran those wanted to see how it went). I get 40 fps, thats 5 more than when i ran it 20 mins earlier. I then drop my settings back to the recommended same fps....

I really have no idea that if loading the game once then quitting and reloading will help, or if its jsut the crazy coding that is giving me this ? Oh well looks better than my PS3, and the MP is a good laugh, it doesn't crash on me either !

I find it hard to believe that video card could play crisis at all if thats the card your using. that would explain alot about low fps in gtaiv.

I'm pretty sure SLI'd 8800GT's is better than anything listed there, but thanks . I can read the box that came with the game you know. Again, my sig rig....that's NOT my main rig. My main rig is currently dead.

Well I tried to test that theory out for you, since I was also curious. Using FRAPS I drove around "Middle Park" 4 times, reloaded so the conditions would be the same and did it again for the other tests I also tried.

Res/Texture Quality/Render Quality View Distance, Detail Distance, Vehicle Density, and Shadow Density etc

1024x768 Medium/Highest 25 37 26 3 Clip Capture Off
Frames: 5407 - Time: 258785ms - Avg: 20.894 - Min: 15 - Max: 26

1024x768 Medium/Highest 25 37 26 3 Clip Capture On
Frames: 5474 - Time: 270675ms - Avg: 20.223 - Min: 15 - Max: 25

1024x768 Medium/Highest 15 10 26 3 Clip Capture On
Frames: 6111 - Time: 268158ms - Avg: 22.788 - Min: 18 - Max: 29

1024x768 Medium/Highest 15 10 26 3 Clip Capture Off
Frames: 6196 - Time: 264035ms - Avg: 23.467 - Min: 16 - Max: 31

1024x768 Medium/High 25 37 26 3 Clip Capture On
Frames: 5694 - Time: 282426ms - Avg: 20.161 - Min: 15 - Max: 27

Keep in mind I use a lower res, but I also have a budget video card and a older CRT monitor (1280x1024 max). Middle Park has a ton of trees and traffic, so I figured it was a good place to go for a benchmark... and it's an easy path. I don't quite understand the last one, I remember running over 2 peds cause there was so much traffic in one area I had to go on the sidewalk... owell.

Oh and I was using Vista SP1 and 180.84 (GTA4 drivers).
