Custom Switch Help

Thread Starter
I have wired my bulgin switch up, Its all good. Plugged the On/Off LED cable lead into my Mobo, turned the power supply switch on, then the switches light turns on aswell! I havent even turned the PC on yet!

When I press the button on the switch the PC boots up, and when I turn it off the switch LED momentarily turns off, then back on again, even though the PC is off. ITS MIND BOGGLING! and very hard to explain.

Is this supposed to happen. Is the switch's LED light always supposed to be on?! Please help me!

doesnt sound right, something might not be wired correctly, but then again I am not familiar with that switch. Its odd that its getting power before the psu has been signalled to turn on

the power LED is usually a 3pin KK housing with pos/neg on either end with the middle pin empty, and the power SW is a 2pin kk for pos/neg. If the power sw connection was wrong then the pc wouldnt boot, so lets assume its correct. You should double check the LED connection and make sure its on the right three pins on the mobo. Dont worry about it being backwards or not, it will just not light the led if its backwards - so just flip it round. The correct three pins is the important part
Do you have the diagram of the pinouts for your mobo?

It might not be quite as odd as you think; I know that a lot of DFI motherboards have a feature that when you first switch on the PSU (providing standby power) it will turn on the Power LED and it stays lit until the rig is booted up, but turns off normally when the system is shut down. This serves as an indicator that the motherboard has lost standby power, which could mean that someone has messed with the inside of the rig.

It's a newer standard. The older power LED connector was 3 pins. The middle one not having a connection. Most motherboards now have the option to use that, or another connector, which is 2 pins. When the computer is on polarity is one way, and when it's off, polarity is another way and the signal is blinked. It's for use with bi-color LEDs. Some BIOSes/UEFIs let you switch off that standby blinky mode.
