This build will have identical PSU, hard drives, case etc. so i just need your input on the following two builds and their main components.

Build One:
Evga 750i SLI FTW + GTX260 Core216 combo deal = $335 AR
OCZ reaper 2x2GB DDR2 1066 ram = $49 AR
Intel E8400 = $165

Total = $549 AR

Build Two:
Asus P6T deluxe + Intel Core i7 920 combo deal = $580
G Skill 3x2GB DDR3 1333 ram = $170
Saphire 4870 1GB = $225 AR

Total = $975 AR

I personally didn't think the i7 build is worth nearly double the price of the E8400 build when the PC is going to be mainly used for gaming. both builds will eventually have a second card added for SLI/Crossfire BUT this review from guru3d has me worried about regretting not jumping into an i7 build. their benchmarks show nearly DOUBLE fps when SLI and crossfire are being used compared to an e8400 setup and even 30-40+ fps more than the QX9770 . http://www.guru3d.com/article/core-i...ance-review/19

What are your opinions? should i fork out twice the cash for the better scaling on x58 or go with build one? any advice or opinions are appreciated.

It depends on how much money you have really... But there are a few out there that say never to go with rev 1 of a product. all the x58 mobo's are in r1. I am desperately trying to resist the urge to upgrade, and wait for the $$ to go down, and the rev 2-3 mobo's to come out, but I can tell you that it is a tough one!

One thing is for sure, if you go with build 2, you will not have to upgrade for a longer period of time...

I would say go with Build 1 for that reason. i7 will drop in price by a fair bit (hopefully) by the time you need to upgrade again, and there will be newer and better versions of both i7 and the boards like Chlywily stated.

Ill give you my most personal and honest opinion on this one = p
First off, the first build would be great for pretty much anything thats out right now on close to or AT HIGHEST settings =p but the second one WOULD be BETTER for now and later (yes the like the candy HARDCORE NOW,a bit softer later good combo huh? =p) well back to the point the 17 is an AMAZEING peace of hardware but the e8400 would suit you just fine in my opinion. Ittl play crysis with ease as well as FC2 and anything else that comes out soon. Because if you really think about it, if ittl play anything that comes out within the next 6 months, WHy spend the extra almost $500 and get something that will have been succeeded in a short time by something a little more powerfull and you have massive price drops to think about as well (after new years and christmas = ]) thats my advice go with numba one = - p btw one of my first "advice" posts on these forums so let me know if it helped out.

best regards!
Justin

Build 2 defeats its purpose if you don't get another video card. Build 1 isn't much of an upgrade for you either.

I think you should just pick up a E8600, and play with that for bit, until Deneb comes out which may force price drops on i7. Or maybe add another 8800GT to bench around with.

Build Two
I voted two based on Nvidias support, they've not bothered to answer me or even offer to help after 5 mails regarding a specific driver and its effect on a wide spread FPS issue(gone about a year since the first) - no, spamfilter didnt sort it out.

[EDIT] After actually taking a closer look i can give some more feedback. I've started to be hesitantto OCZ due tolimited information with their products and the versitility of mentioned - i do have my experience of what is these days just a standard RAM memory.
I have somewhat good expereinces with Asus and their M/B's - sitting on a 965P-DS3 rev3.3 atm and it has given me NO grief until recently.
