Core clock: 3.20GHz @ 1.825v (I'll double check later)

Ok, so I used CPU-Z to validate my CPU stats, but the core clock multiplier didn't show up right (6 instead of 8.5), so the core clock is off by a whole GB.

I got a correct reading with SIW, but for some reason, for each core, it also reads 2200MHz. Anyway, the proper clock is shown in the cap below.
SIW screencap

By the way, is it normal for the system to lower the multiplier and voltage when not under load?
Isn't that dangerous for the CPU?

Also, temps:
31c idle, 42c under load
I'm using a Thermaltake Bigwater 760is liquid cooler.

@jitsan
you can take your fsb up to 399 (no volts change or anything else) and still be stable, have your ram timings down to 798 to match the fsb and be in sync
end result? computer = faster

and yes, its a gigabyte mobo thing, (i think its called dynamic energy saver?). it reduces the multiplier to 6 when system is idle

It's not a Gigabyte thing at all. ALL recent systems going back about 8 to 10 years or so have it. On Intel systems it's called SpeedStep while AMD systems call it Cool'n Quiet (formerly PowerNow). It's designed to lower the cpu speed and vcore when the system is at idle or under a minimal load and ramp it up when the system demand is increased. This is to lower the electric usage as well as the heat. It was originally for laptops, but worked it's way onto desktops as well. You can turn it off in the bios by disabling EIST and C1E, but I wouldn't unless the system becomes unstable.

Q9550 E0 Stepping, Stock speed / settings for now

CPU-Z Validator

Attached (I think I got it attached...) is my coretemp screeny, to confirm.

VID = 1.1625V

Side note to all the experienced Q9550 users out there: Is that a good VID for a Q9550? :\\

I will get to OC'ing later on this week, gotta get some tests completed first for school

Yeah, I would say that is a good VID. Should be a decent OCer.

Well S^*t! I should have looked to see if there was a club before I posted.

Can any of you experienced Q9550 OCer's please check my work at this link. I'm not crashing or getting the BSOD or anything but I'm not stable just yet.

I appreciate the help.

Hi totaly new to this place, I was trying to get my cpu validated but it apears that CPU-z is having some issues and I keep getting an error code. Would it be alright if i just upload a screen cap of the CPU-z findings?

just trying to see what i can get out of this chip

Okay i'm having some issues, mainly due to this bios, never worked with this type and its strange, since I can't find a way to control the fsb directly without having to multiply it by 4

i'm also finding that CPu- z isn't reading my memory's frequency it tells me its 400mhz but I unlinked it and made it 1066mhz with 5-5-5-15-2t at 2.1v

however its not showing up so i'm not sure its even loading.
