My load temps vary when running prime, some tasks run at around 68°, and others at 72° centigrade. Not exactly great temps and I suspect the case is the main problem. I've had three different set-up's in it and all of them ran high temps. My ambient I'm guessing is around 26° centigrade.
I'm pretty confident with a case change the load would probably be around 65°. What do you think?

I knew 533MHz was way OTT, just having a bit of fun really. But I'm not finished with my OC yet for sure. I will try to get as close to 4GHz as I can.
I will post up here my results as I go...

I'm pretty sure my board can go higher, I've seen reports with some as high as 600MHz. But that is with 1.4v going through the NB/SB and FSB and I wouldn't feel very confident pumping that much voltage 24/7.

Cheers.
Your main problem isn't the case cooling as much as the cpu cooling. That Akasa isn't capable of handling a Quad core that high, With a better cpu cooler you should be able to hit 4.0GHz 24/7 stable with it. I can run 4.25GHz (8.5 x 500) 24/7 stable with a Q9550 that has a 1.625vid using a CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ and never get above 65C fully loaded in a 22C room.

Thats with LN2. You couldn't even get close to that on air.

I have a Q9550 E0 (VID=1.3) CPU and an Asus P5Q3 motherboard. I want to reach 4Ghz stable, thus I've set the FSB at 471x8,5 and the CPU voltage at 1.37500 but I'm always getting errors (rounding was 0,5 expected less than 0,4) when running Prime95 blend test at random intervals (could be after 1hour, 2hours or 5hours). Oddly enough, the Intel Burn test never fails even after 25 runs.

Any suggestions please? Could anyone with the same/similar mobo give me their settings to help understand what I need to tweak?

When you run Prime, a hard lock or BSOD (especially the 0x124 BSOD} is usually lack of vcore or vtt, but when one core fails a prime test while the others plug away it is generally a mch or ref voltage.

But if it passes IBT and runs Prime for an hour it's 99% stable and that is as stable as you will ever get it. 100% stability is impossible due to the number of variables involved so I wouldn't worry about it.

But we would need to know the rest of your hardware as it's quite possible that one or more of your other components could be a contributing factor. You need to click on the User CP at the top of this page, then scroll down the left side to the Add System link and enter in your system specs in as much detail as possible. By that I mean 2 x 2gig G.Skil PC2-8500 CL5 ram instead of 4 gig ram, etc. That way we have some idea of what we are dealing with.

First of all, thanks for the quick reply PapaSmurf!

I'll update my system info asap. Though I've already mentioned my motherboard and CPU. My ram is 2x 2GB Corsair DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.65V. I'm aiming for an 1:1 FSB/DRAM ratio so I've set my RAM to run at 942Mhz and let the timings at auto (6-6-6-18).

Other than that, I haven't fiddled with any other option in the motherboard. NB voltage, FSB Voltage, CPU LLC are all set at auto. If anyone has any advice on them, I'd be glad to hear them.

I stopped using Asus boards several years ago so I'm not familiar with how they setup their bios for a Socket 775 cpu (haven't used once since S939 AMD systems) so I can't really offer any specific advice on settings for them. You might want to take a look in the Intel Motherboard section to see if there are any posts for your specific board or take a look at any other similar Asus boards there. You'll probably find some good information there.

Hopefully KingT or one of the other Asus users will be along and post some helpful info for you. You might want to do a search of this thread for posts by KingT as he knows the Asus bios settings pretty well and might have posted something useful already that could help you out.

I think you may have answered your own question here. If your ram spec is 9-9-9-24 then i would strongly advise that you set it as such. And try to bump up mch ref voltage up to "0.67*VTT", see if that makes a difference. :-)

9-9-9-24 is for running at 800Mhz (effective 1600Mhz) though. I ran my RAM at 475Mhz (950Mhz) to keep the DRAM:FSB ratio at 1:1, thus the 6-6-6-18 timings.

I still think personally those timings are too tight for ddr3, regardless what cpuz says. And running 1:1 ratio is not the be all and end all. Especially when you are giving up such a speed difference. You will get much better performance gain from the higher bandwith of a faster memory clock.

Anyway, besides all that for now you need to eliminate the cpu and memory out of the equation. This means lower multiplier to UNDERCLOCK your cpu and make the memory speed, the speed it is rated at or lower. With its rated timings and voltage. Just for now until you get the FSB stable.

Hope this helps :-)
